On the morning of June 27th, candidates taking the 2025 high school graduation exam under the 2018 General Education Program entered their final exam session with two elective subjects.
At examination centers in Ho Chi Minh City, throughout the time the candidates were taking the exam, a large number of parents stood outside anxiously waiting to see how their children were doing.

Besides mathematics and literature, which are two compulsory subjects, candidates must take two elective subjects from a selection of nine (foreign language, history, physics, chemistry, biology, geography, economics & law education, informatics, technology).
Stepping out of the exam center, Minh Ngoc, a student from Nguyen Du High School, smiled brightly and said she was quite confident about the English exam. "I didn't guess any questions; if my answers are correct, I could get a score of 9 or higher," Minh Ngoc said.
Trung Nguyen, a student at the Vocational Training and Continuing Education Center in District 1, who chose to take geography and history exams, said that although history is his strong subject, he felt the geography exam was somewhat "easier," and he believes he will likely score higher in geography than history.

At the exam center at Le Hong Phong High School for the Gifted, candidates smiled brightly after finishing their elective subject exams. Many candidates formed groups and discussed the answers right in the schoolyard.
"I've already received my aptitude test results, so this exam isn't too stressful for me. This afternoon, my friends and I will pack our bags and go on a trip , rewarding ourselves for studying so hard," said Minh Hoang, a student from Nguyen Huu Cau High School, with a bright smile.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, history is the elective subject with the highest number of registered candidates, with over 499,300 students.
Also this morning, more than 26,700 independent candidates took the exam under the old 2006 general education curriculum, with tests in either natural sciences or social sciences. In the afternoon, they will continue with the foreign language exam.
