Mr. MVT (47 years old, from Nam Dinh ) arrived at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital with a nearly severed penis, complete rupture of the corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum, crushed urethral head, scrotal skin detachment, and exposed testicles.
According to his family, Mr. T. worked as an aluminum casting worker, and during the course of his work, an aluminum saw blade flew out, causing injury to his penis.
"The patient arrived at the hospital 12 hours after the injury," said Dr. Bui Van Quang, MD, MSc, from the Andrology Center at Viet Duc Friendship Hospital, adding that the patient underwent suturing of the corpora cavernosa and corpus spongiosum, and scrotal skin reconstruction to cover both testicles.

Two days after surgery, the preserved portion of the penis was pink, well-perfused, the incision dry, with minimal discharge, and no signs of infection. The patient was regularly examined by the doctor after surgery and given a treatment plan to monitor for future erectile function recovery.
Doctor Bui Van Quang advises that this is a rare and unusual incident, but it leaves behind complex, crushed wounds, making it difficult to treat and preserve the severed part of the penis.
People need to be careful and ensure workplace safety. In the unfortunate event of an accident, they should receive first aid, properly preserve the severed limb, and transport the patient to a specialized medical facility for timely treatment.
