Phong Chau pontoon bridge temporarily closed due to rising water levels in the Red River.

The Phong Chau pontoon bridge will have to temporarily cease operations from approximately 6 PM this evening.

Reportedly, authorities have temporarily closed the road, preventing vehicles from using the pontoon bridge. The initial cause has been identified as the rising water level of the Red River, with many trees and obstacles floating and becoming entangled in the pontoon bridge, putting excessive pressure on it. Closing the Phong Chau pontoon bridge is necessary to ensure safety until further notice.

The Phong Chau pontoon bridge was installed and anchored to facilitate the movement of people when the flow velocity is 2.2 m/s or less. However, due to heavy rain, water from upstream has surged, causing the water level and flow velocity of the Red River to rise further this afternoon, posing a safety risk to the pontoon bridge.

The Phong Chau pontoon bridge, installed and completed by the military, was put into operation on the morning of September 30th. It operates from 6 AM to 10 PM daily, regulated by the authorities.
