This afternoon (May 16), leaders of the Road and Rail Traffic Police Department ( Hai Phong City Police) informed that the Hai An District Investigation Agency has issued a decision to temporarily detain driver Mai Van Tam on charges of "Resisting public officials," according to Article 330 of the 2015 Penal Code.
Accordingly, at 7:35 PM on May 8th, the task force of Traffic Police Team No. 2 (Road and Rail Traffic Police Department) carried out a patrol and control plan on Bui Vien Street, near the Bui Vien - Dong Xa intersection in Thanh To Ward, Hai An District.
Here, the task force signaled the container truck with license plate 15C-162.34 to stop for an administrative inspection.
However, the container truck driver, Mai Van Tam, born in 1986 and registered as a resident of Nga An commune, Nga Son district (Thanh Hoa province), disregarded the traffic police's orders and continued driving.
The task force assigned one officer on a motorcycle to block the front of the container truck. In addition, two other officers continuously signaled the driver to stop the vehicle and get out to cooperate with the traffic police.
Driver Tam recklessly accelerated towards a traffic police officer on duty until the container truck pinned the officer against another vehicle before finally stopping. Fortunately, the officer managed to escape.
The task force apprehended Tam, documented the incident, and handed over the suspect and vehicle to the Criminal Investigation Agency of Hai An District Police for processing.
