Germany is currently Vietnam's second-largest trading partner in Europe and one of Vietnam's largest ODA donors.
Ho Chi Minh City is a location with many significant contributions to the concretization of Vietnam-Germany bilateral relations. Examples include the German International School, the Vietnamese-German University (VGU), and the German House, which are exemplary projects that spread the German-Vietnamese language, culture, and spirit of cooperation. These projects vividly demonstrate the close connection between education , research, and development practices, while affirming Ho Chi Minh City's pioneering role in Vietnam-Germany cooperation.
Currently, Ho Chi Minh City, together with its German partners, is implementing numerous cooperation activities in the fields of green energy, smart urban development, healthcare, finance, and climate change response.
In particular, the increasing presence of German businesses in the city in sustainable investment sectors demonstrates the social responsibility and long-term vision of German investors towards Vietnam.
In terms of people-to-people diplomacy, the Vietnam-Germany Friendship Association of Ho Chi Minh City is proud to have participated in many meaningful people-to-people diplomatic activities between the two countries.
In particular, in 2025, the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the Association coordinated with relevant agencies to implement a series of rich and practical events such as the German Career Guidance Bus and the Tree Planting Ceremony commemorating 50 years of Vietnam-Germany cooperation, and people-to-people exchange activities at the German Festival.
