Welcoming the delegation at the Chiang Mai City headquarters, Mr. Assanee Buranupakorn, Mayor of Chiang Mai City, warmly welcomed the delegation from the Economic & Urban Newspaper to visit and work with ThaiNews.

On behalf of the Mayor of Chiang Mai, Mr. Soontorn Yamsiri, Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai, introduced the Economic & Urban News delegation to the socio-economic development of Chiang Mai City. This city holds a significant position in northern Thailand and is one of the top two cities in the country attracting foreign tourists . Currently, Chiang Mai City covers an area of ​​nearly 42 square kilometers with a population of 150,000 people; the main source of income for its residents comes from tourism and business.

Mr. Soontorn Yamsiri stated that in November 2024, Chiang Mai will host the Loy Krathong Festival, an event that attracts many businesses, is rich in local cultural traditions, and celebrates the wonders of nature. At the same time, there will be a large parade of beautifully decorated cars, and a prize will be awarded by the King to the winning team. The event is scheduled to take place from November 14-17.

“We would like to invite representatives from Vietnam to attend the festivals. The parade, which starts on November 16th and lasts for only one day, attracts a large number of tourists every year, making it an international event in Chiang Mai,” said Mr. Soontorn Yamsiri.

During a meeting with the leaders of Chiang Mai City, the Editor-in-Chief of the Economic & Urban Newspaper, Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thanh Loi, expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended to the delegation by the city's leaders and officials. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi shared that the Economic & Urban Newspaper is the official publication of the Hanoi People's Committee, currently publishing two print editions (Economic & Urban Newspaper and Law and Society Newspaper); the online Economic & Urban Newspaper, and six online special sections.

“We have an English-language section (The Hanoi Times) that publishes domestic and international news, promoting the image of Vietnam and Hanoi abroad. In particular, we cooperate with ASEAN countries, including Thailand in general and Chiang Mai in particular. The Economic & Urban Newspaper and ThaiNews have a strong relationship, with annual professional exchanges between the two newspapers. We hope that in the future, the two newspapers will continue to strengthen professional activities, making positive contributions to the development of Hanoi and Chiang Mai. Through this, we hope that the Chiang Mai city government will continue to support ThaiNews' cooperation with the Economic & Urban Newspaper to further strengthen the information cooperation between the Economic & Urban Newspaper and ThaiNews,” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi emphasized.

The partnership between ThaiNews and Kinh Te & Do Thi newspaper began in 2015. After a period of interruption due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the program resumed in 2023.

During the meeting, both sides exchanged professional knowledge and shared experiences in journalism across various fields, including socio-economics, urban management, culture, and the relationship between the press and businesses. Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan, President of ThaiNews, shared an overview of the newspaper's activities over the past period. According to her, the print edition of ThaiNews dedicates its front pages to news on important political issues in Thailand and the local area; subsequent pages delve into daily life, education, entertainment, tourism, culture, and art. Additionally, the newspaper dedicates one page to breaking news on sports activities in Northern Thailand (comprising 14 provinces and cities).

Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan proudly stated that this year marks ThaiNews' 55th anniversary of establishment and development. It is the only newspaper in Chiang Mai that is completely financially independent, with its growth primarily based on the economic aspects of journalism.

Regarding distribution, Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan stated that ThaiNews has the advantage of having its print edition placed on bookshelves in public places, supermarkets, etc., in Chiang Mai, making it easily accessible to readers and businesses.

“Currently, the global trend is for print newspapers to gradually shift towards digital. ThaiNews is no exception. On the one hand, the newspaper has to reduce its publication frequency, and on the other hand, it is developing its online version. To maintain and develop the newspaper, it is strengthening its relationships with many business partners. ThaiNews is a reputable newspaper in the region,” shared Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan.

The chairman of ThaiNews affirmed that the newspaper's goal is always to prioritize quality, provide the most truthful reporting, and limit "fake news," as this is how the newspaper retains its readership.

Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Thanh Loi expressed his pleasure at visiting ThaiNews and highly appreciated the newspaper's development over the past time, especially the cooperative relationship between the two newspapers, with many exchange and interaction programs, which not only promote cooperation in information and communication between Hanoi and Chiang Mai but also contribute to promoting cooperation between Hanoi and Chiang Mai.

“With 55 years of formation and development, ThaiNews newspaper has made many efforts to innovate, including expanding exchanges and cooperation with Kinh Te & Do Thi newspaper. We hope that the cooperative relationship between the two newspapers will become even closer and continue to develop,” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi affirmed.

Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan expressed her gratitude to the delegation for visiting Chiang Mai and the newspaper's headquarters, thereby strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two sides. Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan hoped to learn more from the Economic & Urban Newspaper about the application of modern information technology in the production of journalistic products and wished for the relationship between the two newspapers to become even stronger and more developed.

Both sides also agreed to facilitate, to the best of their ability and in accordance with the laws of each country and international practice, the work of officials and reporters from both newspapers in supporting the reporting of important events taking place in the two cities of the two countries, and to maintain the exchange of study tours to share experiences with each other on an annual basis.

ThaiNews is a weekly newspaper published every Monday, with a circulation of 10,000 copies per week in 14 provinces in northern Thailand. In addition to the print version, there is an online edition. The print version of ThaiNews was first published 55 years ago, initially in black and white; today, it is a full-color, 12-page newspaper.
