Welcoming and receiving the delegation at Chiang Mai City headquarters, Mr. Assanee Buranupakorn, Mayor of Chiang Mai City warmly welcomed the delegation of Kinh te & Do thi newspaper to visit and work with ThaiNews newspaper.

On behalf of the Mayor of Chiang Mai City, Mr. Soontorn Yamsiri, Deputy Mayor of Chiang Mai City, introduced to the Economic and Urban Newspaper delegation the economic and social development of Chiang Mai City. This is an important locality in the Northern region of Thailand, and is one of the cities that attracts the second largest number of foreign tourists in the country. Currently, Chiang Mai City has an area of ​​nearly 42km2, with a population of 150,000 people; the main income of Chiang Mai people is from tourism and business.

Mr. Soontorn Yamsiri said that in November 2024, Chiang Mai will hold the Loy Krathong Festival, an event that attracts many businesses, imbued with local cultural traditions, honoring things that come from nature. At the same time, there will be a grand parade of cars (beautifully decorated, especially) and there will be a King's award for the winning team. The event is scheduled to take place from November 14-17.

“We would like to invite representatives from Vietnam to attend the festivals. With the parade, starting from November 16 and lasting only one day. Every year, this event attracts a lot of tourists, an international event of Chiang Mai” - Mr. Soontorn Yamsiri informed.

Talking with the leaders of Chiang Mai City, Editor-in-Chief of the Economic & Urban Newspaper, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thanh Loi thanked the leaders and officials of Chiang Mai City for the warm welcome they gave to the delegation. Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi shared that the Economic & Urban Newspaper is the mouthpiece of the Hanoi People's Committee, currently having 2 printed publications (Economic & Urban Newspaper and Law and Society Newspaper); the electronic Economic & Urban Newspaper, and 6 electronic pages.

“We have an English-language page (The Hanoi Times) that publishes domestic and international news, promoting the image of Vietnam and Hanoi abroad. Especially, we cooperate with ASEAN countries, including Thailand in general and Chiang Mai in particular. The Economic and Urban Newspaper and ThaiNews have a close relationship, with annual professional exchanges between the two newspapers. We hope that in the coming time, the two newspapers will continue to strengthen professional activities to contribute positively to the development of Hanoi and Chiang Mai. Through this, we hope that the Chiang Mai City government will continue to support ThaiNews in cooperating with the Economic and Urban Newspaper to further strengthen the information cooperation relationship between the Economic and Urban Newspaper and ThaiNews,” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi emphasized.

Promoting cooperation between Kinh te & Do thi newspaper and ThaiNews newspaper

The partnership between ThaiNews and Kinh te & Do thi newspaper began in 2015. After a hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the program has been continued since 2023.

At the meeting, the two sides discussed professional matters and shared experiences in journalism in many fields including: socio-economics, urban management, culture, and the relationship between the press and businesses. Sharing with the delegation, Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan, President of ThaiNews, shared general information about the newspaper's operations in recent times. Accordingly, the printed newspaper ThaiNews devotes the first pages to news about important political issues of Thailand and the locality; the following pages delve into people's lives, articles about education, entertainment, tourism, culture, arts, etc. In addition, the newspaper dedicates 1 page to news about sports activities in the Northern region of Thailand (including 14 provinces and cities).

Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan is proud that this year, ThaiNews has 55 years of establishment and development. This is the only newspaper in Chiang Mai that is completely financially independent, developing mainly based on the exploitation of the press economy.

Regarding distribution, Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan said that ThaiNews has the advantage of being placed on all bookshelves in public places, supermarkets, etc. in Chiang Mai, so it is easily accessible to readers and businesses.

“Currently, the world trend is that printed newspapers are gradually shifting to electronic ones. ThaiNews is no exception. On the one hand, the newspaper must reduce its publication frequency, on the other hand, develop electronic newspapers. To maintain and develop the newspaper, the newspaper strengthens its relationships with many business partners. ThaiNews is a prestigious newspaper in the region,” Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan shared.

The Chairman of ThaiNews newspaper affirmed that the newspaper's desire is always to put quality first, report the most truthful news, limit "fake news" and this is the way for the newspaper to retain readers.

Editor-in-Chief Nguyen Thanh Loi expressed his joy when visiting ThaiNews and highly appreciated the newspaper's development in recent times, especially the cooperative relationship between the two newspapers, with many exchange and communication programs, not only promoting cooperation in information and communication between Hanoi and Chiang Mai but also contributing to promoting cooperation between Hanoi and Chiang Mai.

“With 55 years of establishment and development, ThaiNews has made many efforts to innovate, including expanding exchanges and cooperation with Kinh te & Do thi newspaper. Hopefully, the cooperative relationship between the two newspapers will become increasingly close and continue to develop,” affirmed Mr. Nguyen Thanh Loi.

Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan expressed her gratitude to the delegation for visiting Chiang Mai and the newspaper's headquarters, thereby strengthening the cooperative relationship between the two sides. Ms. Ubolnadda Supawan wished to learn more from Kinh te & Do thi newspaper about the application of modern information technology in the production of press products and hoped that the relationship between the two newspapers would become increasingly strong and developed.

The two sides also agreed to create favorable conditions within their capabilities, according to the laws of each country and international practices, for the staff and reporters of the two newspapers to support operational activities to serve the propaganda of important events taking place in the two cities of the two countries, and to maintain the exchange of delegations to learn from each other's experiences, rotating annually.

ThaiNews is published once a week on Mondays, with a circulation of 10,000 copies per week in 14 provinces in Northern Thailand. In addition to the print edition, the newspaper also has an online version. 55 years ago, ThaiNews was first published, initially in 2 colors (black and white), but now it is printed in color, with 12 pages.
