As reported by the People's Representatives Newspaper, this afternoon, October 20th, at the National Assembly building, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man presided over the welcoming ceremony for Hungarian National Assembly Chairman Kover Laszlo on his official visit to Vietnam. Immediately after the welcoming ceremony, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man and National Assembly Chairman Kover Laszlo held talks.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man warmly welcomed National Assembly Chairman Kover Laszlo's official visit to Vietnam; assessing the visit as having significant importance, taking place precisely as the two countries celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations (1950-2025), contributing to further consolidating the traditional friendship between the two countries and strengthening cooperation through parliamentary channels.

National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man affirmed that the two countries have a long history of friendship and cooperation. Hungary was one of the first 10 countries to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam. The traditional friendship and cooperation between the two countries have been diligently nurtured and developed by many generations of leaders and people of both countries.

The Chairman of the National Assembly emphasized that Vietnam always remembers and is grateful for the valuable support that Hungary has given to Vietnam in the struggle for independence and national reunification in the past, as well as in the current building and development; affirming that Vietnam always values ​​and wishes to promote the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation with Hungary, Vietnam's first comprehensive partner in Central and Eastern Europe.

The Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament expressed his sincere gratitude to Speaker Tran Thanh Man, the leaders and people of Vietnam for the warm, friendly and thoughtful reception given to the Hungarian parliamentary delegation; highly appreciated and congratulated Vietnam on the great achievements it has made in the Doi Moi (Renovation) process, national development and international integration; and expressed his confidence that the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will be a great success, leading Vietnam into a new era of development, prosperity and strength.

The Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament affirmed that, in its eastward-oriented foreign policy, Hungary has always considered Vietnam its most important partner in Southeast Asia and wishes to develop cooperative relations with Vietnam in all fields.

The Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament noted that although the two countries are geographically, culturally, and historically distant, Hungary has few countries with which it has such close relations as Vietnam; emphasizing that there is still much room for cooperation between the two sides in economics, trade, investment, tourism, education, and training.

In a friendly, sincere, and open atmosphere, both sides informed each other about the situation in their respective countries and the activities of their respective parliaments. They highly appreciated the positive progress in bilateral relations in recent times, as evidenced by the meetings and contacts of high-level leaders and officials at all levels, as well as the dynamic development of cooperation between the two parliaments, with regular exchanges of parliamentary leaders, committees, and friendship parliamentary groups, and close coordination at inter-regional and international parliamentary forums, especially at the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU).

The two leaders agreed to continue strengthening contacts and exchanges of delegations at all levels, especially at the high level, through all channels of the Party, State, Government, Parliament, and people-to-people exchanges, in order to further enhance political trust and mutual understanding, as a foundation for promoting and expanding bilateral cooperation in all fields.

Discussing the cooperation between the two parliaments, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man shared some key aspects of the recently concluded Tenth Session of the 15th National Assembly; emphasizing the importance of cooperation between the two parliaments in bilateral relations.

Both sides agreed to strengthen exchanges of high-level parliamentary delegations, specialized committees, and parliamentary friendship groups to exchange and share information and experiences in parliamentary activities; cooperate in monitoring, urging, and supporting the Government in effectively implementing high-level agreements and commitments; agreed on the main theme of the 6th legislative seminar between the two Parliaments, scheduled to take place in the first half of 2026; and promote close coordination and mutual support at regional and global inter-parliamentary forums such as the IPU and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership ( ASEP) to contribute to peace, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

During the talks, both sides affirmed the importance of ensuring peace, stability, security, safety, and freedom of navigation and overflight in the South China Sea, and resolving disputes through peaceful means in accordance with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS 1982).

On this occasion, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man expressed his gratitude and requested that the National Assembly and the authorities at all levels of Hungary continue to facilitate the integration and stable lives of the Vietnamese community in Hungary.

Following the talks, Hungarian Parliament Speaker Kover Laszlo and the Hungarian parliamentary delegation attended the plenary session of the Tenth Session of the National Assembly. That evening, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man hosted a reception for the Hungarian Parliament Speaker and the Hungarian parliamentary delegation.
