Releasing flower lanterns on the Ngan Pho River

The flower lantern festival to pray for health at Tuong Son Pagoda (Son Giang Commune, Huong Son, Ha Tinh ) is held annually on the 15th day of the first lunar month to commemorate and show gratitude for the great contributions of the famous physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac and to pray for national peace and prosperity.

On the occasion of the 15th day of the first lunar month, Huong Son district organized a festival to pray for health at Tuong Son Pagoda. This is one of the activities to commemorate the 233rd death anniversary of the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac (1791 - 2024).

At the ceremony, Venerable Thich Nhat Tu - Permanent Deputy Director of Vietnam Buddhist Academy - Abbot of Tuong Son Pagoda shared the meaning of praying for health, for national peace and prosperity, for the people's happiness and gratitude for the great contributions of the famous physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac.

Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac passed away on the 15th day of the first lunar month in the year of Tan Hoi 1791. Tuong Son Pagoda is the place associated with the life and career of the great physician. Since ancient times, Buddhists at Tuong Son Pagoda considered the great physician Hai Thuong Lan Ong as the Bodhisattva of Medicine (the aspiration of the Medicine Master) incarnated to save people and save the world.

After the incense offering ceremony, chanting prayers for national peace and prosperity, and a new year of good health and safety, leaders of all levels and sectors of Huong Son district, along with monks, nuns, Buddhists and a large number of people performed the flower lantern releasing ceremony on Dragon Wharf - Ngan Pho River.

Buddhist monks, nuns, and many people released flower lanterns, praying for a new year of peace and good health.

Hai Thuong Lan Ong Le Huu Trac is a shining example of medical ethics, medical practice, and medical skills for people to follow. He is the embodiment of a great personality of integrity and noble spirit, respected and admired by people.

The great physician left behind a huge, valuable book series: "Y tong tam linh" consisting of 28 volumes, 66 books with thousands of good prescriptions, discovering and adding over 300 Vietnamese medicinal herbs for his contemporaries and future generations to study and use.
