Attending the event were Mr. Nguyen Van Duoc - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee; US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper and US Consulate General in Ho Chi Minh City Susan Burns.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ms. Susan Burns - US Consulate General affirmed that the cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the United States in general and with US states in particular in many fields, fromeducation , health to trade and investment, has contributed to strengthening the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
The US Consul General highly appreciated the results achieved in bilateral trade from several hundred million USD 30 years ago to nearly 150 billion USD/year as at present.
According to Ms. Susan, this is an important milestone in the relationship between the United States and Vietnam at a time when the two countries are celebrating the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Anniversary occasions like this are a testament to the development of the US-Vietnam relationship and a reminder of the inseparable future between the two countries.
At the same time, she also shared that during her 25 years working in the diplomatic sector, she had never witnessed the relationship develop so quickly. She affirmed that “building trust and mutual understanding, as well as progress in promoting the relationship between the two countries to new heights, is the sustainable foundation for the US-Vietnam relationship in the future.”

Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City Nguyen Van Duoc also affirmed that Ho Chi Minh City attaches special importance to cooperation with the United States - a country with the most profound influence in the world, not only in economics and politics , but also in innovation, science and technology.
Currently, in the context of Ho Chi Minh City aiming to become a center of innovation and sustainable development in the region, the presence of Intel Corporation, the first technology enterprise to invest in the city nearly 20 years ago, to new generation corporations such as NVIDIA, AMD and Marvell, ... this is a favorable time for the two sides to strengthen cooperation in the fields of semiconductor technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, clean energy and digital economy.
The Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City highly appreciated the role of the US business community in promoting economic cooperation between the two countries. In 2024 alone, bilateral trade turnover between Ho Chi Minh City and the United States reached more than 10.7 billion USD, an increase of 42% over the same period last year. The United States currently has more than 680 investment projects in Ho Chi Minh City, with a total registered capital exceeding 1.4 billion USD.
"These figures reflect the trust, companionship and prospects for cooperation between the two sides in the future. At the same time, with the joint efforts of businesses, localities and people of the two countries, it will contribute to promoting the potential and strengths of both sides for common development and prosperity," the Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City emphasized.
Vietnam and the United States established diplomatic relations on July 11, 1995. The two countries upgraded their diplomatic relations to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in September 2023. On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations, the US Embassy held a series of commemorative activities, including the first US-Vietnam Friendship Exchange Festival held in Da Nang. In the near future, the festival will be held in Can Tho, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. |
