(VTC News) – In November, the Suoi Thau grassland is likened to a "miniature Switzerland" with its fields of blooming buckwheat flowers, attracting a large number of tourists to visit and take photos.
Located about 5 km from Coc Pai town (Xin Man district, Ha Giang province), at an altitude of over 1,200 m above sea level, Suoi Thau grassland is an attractive destination for tourists visiting the western part of Ha Giang province.
With its rolling hills, sprawling terraced rice fields, buckwheat fields interspersed with tall cypress trees amidst the grasslands, and cool climate, Suoi Thau is often described as "a miniature Switzerland in the heart of Ha Giang."
Each season, Suoi Thau displays different colors, and every season is beautiful. In spring, the rapeseed flowers bloom in vibrant yellow. Summer brings the green of cornfields, rice paddies, and meadows. Late autumn and early winter are the most beautiful and vibrant seasons, with the white and pink hues of buckwheat flowers interspersed with tall, green rows of cypress trees.
Buckwheat flowers are a characteristic flower of Ha Giang, usually blooming from late October to early December, when the weather is cool and foggy.
Buckwheat flowers bloom in clusters, with petals bunched together in a conical shape.
In mid-November, the flowers are a pale pinkish-white. When the weather gets colder, they turn a deeper purplish-pink.
Besides beautifying the grasslands of Ha Giang, buckwheat flowers are also used as a food source, made into cakes, and other local dishes.
To cater to the needs of tourists, people in Ha Giang often plant buckwheat in staggered seasons. Although its life cycle is only about two months, when the buckwheat blooms, it still manages to add a unique beauty to the rocky plateau of Ha Giang.
Currently, the entrance fee to the buckwheat field in Suoi Thau grassland is 20,000 VND per person.
With its pristine, rustic, peaceful yet majestic beauty, Suoi Thau resembles European villages straight out of a fairy tale.
The 10th Buckwheat Flower Festival in 2024, themed "Land of Fond Memories," promises many attractive and unique cultural activities taking place from January 9th to November 21st, such as a competition showcasing and introducing traditional costumes of ethnic groups in Dong Van district; demonstrations and hands-on experiences in linen weaving; hand embroidery of traditional costumes; crafting of household items and traditional musical instruments; and exhibitions of local cultural, tourism, agricultural, culinary , and medicinal products.
The buckwheat flower festival in Ha Giang is an event that attracts a large number of tourists to admire the beauty of this flower, which symbolizes the resilient vitality and pristine beauty of the highlands at the northernmost point of the country.
