Seeing that his two children had different blood types, the father secretly did a DNA test and then destroyed the results himself.

Mr. Nguyen Trong (40 years old, Hanoi ) went for a general health check-up with his wife and children. The results showed his son's blood type was AB, his daughter's was O, while he has blood type B, leading him to suspect that the two children are not his biological offspring.

He was restless, filled with sadness and doubt, unable to understand why both of his children didn't share his blood type. After two weeks of anxiety, the man decided to have a sample of his children's hair taken for a DNA test to verify their paternity.

The results confirmed that Mr. Trong and his children are related by blood. He questioned the testator, asking, "Why do the two children, who are mine, not have the same blood type?"

Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga, Director of the Center for DNA Analysis and Genetic Technology (Hanoi), said that having the same blood type does not necessarily mean they are father and son, while having different blood types, as in Mr. Trong's case, does. All of this is a consequence of the laws of heredity.

In reality, a child can have the same blood type as their parents, but this doesn't always happen. For example, parents with blood types AB and O can have a child with blood type A or blood type B. These two blood types are definitely different from the parents' blood types. Parents with blood type O will always have a child with blood type O.

"Therefore, it's not the case that a biological father and son will share the same blood type. This is also a general answer for many people to avoid unfortunate misunderstandings that could affect family relationships," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Nga.

The expert's logical and in-depth analysis helped Mr. Trong realize the problem and request to cancel the results immediately at the center. However, the assessors stated that the results would be stored in the center's records and could not be canceled. The customer could only cancel their own report.

Mr. Trong also admitted that his excessive suspicion led to a decision that upset his wife, and he felt remorse for his actions. Upon returning home, the man tried everything to make amends for the emotional pain he had caused his wife and children, promising to trust her and work together to build a happy family.

According to experts, relying solely on blood type to determine kinship is insufficient. DNA testing is the most accurate way to determine kinship. DNA testing analyzes the DNA information in the 23 pairs of chromosomes of two or more people to determine their genetic relationship.

DNA testing using a 24-gene set has a high accuracy rate of over 99.99999%. To perform a DNA test, you can use samples of hair with roots, fingernails, toenails, fingertip blood, oral mucosa, or the umbilical cord of a newborn.
