In this remote border region, peanuts are grown by the locals on high mountain peaks, in production areas far from their homes. In the photo: Khanh Thanh village, in Nam Can commune, is home to the Khmu ethnic minority, comprising 74 households and 410 people. It is located about 4km from the commune center, with very difficult access roads. The villagers' peanut fields are quite far from the village center, covering a total area of about 6 hectares. The peanut fields are located at an altitude of about 800m above sea level, on mountain peaks and fairly steep slopes, in sandy clay soil suitable for this crop. "Each year, the peanut harvest brings my family an income of about 16-20 million VND, it's the main source of income for my family," said Ms. Moong Thi Minh from Khanh Thanh village. Photo: Dao Tho

After harvesting, the people of Nam Can dry the peanuts before selling them. Fresh peanuts sell for 15,000 VND/kg, while dried peanuts sell for 20-22,000 VND/kg, providing a decent income for the locals, especially given the poor rice harvest in Nam Can this year. Photo: Hoai Thu
