Overview of two key transport projects

The Office of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has just announced the conclusion of Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong on the progress of two important traffic intersection projects in the East, An Phu and My Thuy. Specific completion timelines for many items have been set, with the total investment of both projects being more than 6,800 billion VND.

New progress details at An Phu intersection

The An Phu Interchange Project, with a total investment of over VND 3,400 billion, has reached over 70% of the total volume after nearly 3 years of construction. The Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board) is assigned to ensure the progress of the following main items:

  • Bridge branch N2: Connecting from Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh expressway to Mai Chi Tho street (towards Vo Nguyen Giap street), striving to open to traffic by the end of 2025.
  • HC1-02 underpass: Directly connecting the expressway with Mai Chi Tho street (towards Saigon river tunnel), expected to accelerate progress from October 2025 after completing the relocation of technical infrastructure.
  • Extension branch from Luong Dinh Cua: Turn right onto Mai Chi Tho street, must be completed before November 30, 2025.
  • Bridge branches N3, N4, N1.1, N1.3: Expected to be completed before June 30, 2026.

The operation of the N2 bridge branch and HC1-02 underpass is expected to help reduce about 80% of traffic pressure in this area.

When will the items at My Thuy intersection be completed?

For My Thuy intersection, the project has a total investment of 3,449 billion VND and is designed with 3 floors. The City People's Committee has set important completion milestones for the remaining items:

  • Right turn: From Dong Van Cong Street to Vo Chi Cong Street and from Dong Van Cong to Nguyen Thi Dinh will be completed before January 31, 2026.
  • Remaining branches and Ky Ha 4 bridge: Completed in February 2026.
  • Entire project: Expected completion date is April 30, 2026.

Currently, some items of phase 1 and 2 of the project have been put into operation since the beginning of 2019.

Directions on synchronous and coordinated solutions

In addition to speeding up the progress, the City People's Committee also directed relevant units to implement many synchronous solutions. The Department of Construction was assigned to preside over the research and organize a remote traffic diversion plan to reduce congestion at the An Phu intersection area. At the same time, the investor of the Global City project was asked to complete Rach Chiec bridge soon to reduce traffic pressure and review the connection plan to ensure no congestion.

For My Thuy intersection, work related to relocating high-voltage power grids and resettlement arrangements is also being urgently coordinated by departments and branches to ensure the overall progress of the entire project.
