Overview of two key transportation projects

The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Office has just announced the conclusions of Vice Chairman Bui Xuan Cuong regarding the progress of two important traffic junction projects in the eastern area: An Phu and My Thuy. Specific completion deadlines for many items have been set, with a total investment of over 6,800 billion VND for both projects.

Updated progress details at the An Phu intersection.

The An Phu intersection project, with a total investment of over 3,400 billion VND, has reached over 70% completion after nearly 3 years of construction. The Project Management Board for Investment and Construction of Transport Works (Transport Board) has been assigned the task of ensuring the progress of the main items as follows:

  • N2 branch of the bridge: Connecting from the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh expressway to Mai Chi Tho road (towards Vo Nguyen Giap road), aiming for opening to traffic by the end of 2025.
  • Underpass HC1-02: Directly connecting the expressway with Mai Chi Tho road (towards the Saigon River tunnel), construction is expected to be accelerated from October 2025 after the relocation of technical infrastructure is completed.
  • The extension from Luong Dinh Cua Street: Turn right onto Mai Chi Tho Street, must be completed before November 30, 2025.
  • Bridge branches N3, N4, N1.1, N1.3: Expected to be completed before June 30, 2026.

The commissioning of the N2 bridge branch and the HC1-02 underpass is expected to reduce traffic pressure in this area by approximately 80%.

When will the projects at the My Thuy intersection be completed?

For the My Thuy intersection, the project has a total investment of VND 3,449 billion and is designed with 3 levels. The City People's Committee has finalized important completion timelines for the remaining items:

  • The right-hand turn: From Dong Van Cong Street to Vo Chi Cong Street and from Dong Van Cong Street to Nguyen Thi Dinh Street will be completed before January 31, 2026.
  • The remaining ramps and Ky Ha 4 bridge: To be completed in February 2026.
  • The entire project is expected to be completed on April 30, 2026.

Currently, some components of phases 1 and 2 of the project have been put into operation since the beginning of 2019.

Guidance on synchronized and coordinated solutions

Besides accelerating progress, the City People's Committee also directed relevant units to implement many synchronized solutions. The Department of Construction was assigned to lead the research and organize a plan for traffic diversion from afar to reduce congestion at the An Phu intersection. At the same time, the investor of the Global City project was requested to complete the Rach Chiec bridge soon to alleviate traffic pressure and review the connection plan to ensure it does not cause congestion.

Regarding the My Thuy intersection, relevant departments and agencies are urgently coordinating efforts to resolve issues related to relocating high-voltage power lines and arranging resettlement to ensure the overall progress of the entire project.
