Responding to press inquiries about why the Vietnamese youth table tennis team did not train at the Hanoi Sports Training Center (referred to as the Center) as stated in the summons decision, but instead moved to the My Dinh National Sports Complex, the Department of Sports and Physical Education stated that the Center does not have sufficient space to accommodate more than 40 national and youth teams for regular training annually.
The coaching staff of the Vietnamese youth table tennis team no longer includes the two coaches listed in this decision; they have been replaced following the recent controversy.
The Department of Sports and Physical Education stated: "According to statistics, currently, there are approximately 1,000 people training at the center. Due to objective difficulties regarding training conditions and facilities at the center, in order to meet the training requirements of the national teams, the department has to allow training at other facilities in different locations or localities. For example, the National Sports Complex or training and competition at training and competition centers in other provinces and cities such as Hai Phong, Hanoi, Quang Ninh, and Hoa Binh . The center pays salaries and monthly meal allowances into the individual accounts of each coach and athlete."
The Vietnamese junior table tennis team has 10 athletes, three of whom are orphans. They asked their head coach to hold their money for them because they don't have their own bank accounts, so they could receive it back at the end of the year. After discovering that the coach was holding the money, the Department of Sports and Physical Education requested that the coach return the money to the athletes.
Sharing with the press, the leaders of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated: "The Ministry has actively intervened and dealt with the issue immediately upon receiving information about the meals provided to the Vietnamese youth table tennis team. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has requested the Department of Sports and Physical Education to conduct a comprehensive review of all training plans for national teams (including youth teams) and report to the Ministry before October 20th. This includes issues related to facilities serving the teams' training, and funding for their living expenses and meals, in accordance with state regulations." The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism requires that all matters related to the national teams not only ensure professional standards but also be transparent and uphold the strict enforcement of the law.
The Department of Sports and Physical Education further stated that if any youth team is found to have committed violations in athlete management, the department will take strict action.
