
On the afternoon of December 4, at the Ministry of Public Security Sports Center (Hanoi), the Vietnamese table tennis team had an important friendly match with the Russian team, an activity within the visit and training at the invitation of the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation.
Although the opponents only brought in a young team, the matches were still exciting, fast-paced and professional. The two teams competed in a mixed team format with four events: mixed doubles, men's singles, women's singles and men's doubles.
After four fierce matches, the Russian team won 3-1. The bright spot for the home team was Nguyen Anh Tu, who defeated the Russian athlete in the men's singles, bringing the only victory for Vietnam.
Head coach Vu Van Trung used 10 athletes including Dinh Anh Hoang, Nguyen Anh Tu, Nguyen Duc Tuan, Doan Ba Tuan Anh, Le Dinh Duc, Nguyen Thi Nga, Bui Ngoc Lan, Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh, Tran Mai Ngoc and Mai Hoang My Trang. The coaching staff assessed that this series of friendly matches had high professional quality, helping the team review its strengths and weaknesses before entering the final stage of the 33rd SEA Games.
After the match, the two teams took souvenir photos, exchanged and received gifts from the Vietnam Table Tennis Federation. The Russian team will leave Vietnam on the morning of December 5, while the Vietnamese team will continue training in Hanoi before leaving for Thailand on December 10.
The 33rd SEA Games table tennis event takes place from December 12 to 19. The goal of the Vietnamese table tennis team at this year's Games is to win 1 gold medal, after gradually reaching the highest podium in the mixed doubles event in 2023.
