Handing over the pangolin to the authorities.

This pangolin was discovered at 9 PM on December 10th by two officers, Vo Duy Linh and Nguyen Hoai Thanh (South Song Huong Area Electricity Management Team), while on duty in the dark. They spotted the pangolin running across the road and promptly approached and rescued it safely in the darkness.

According to the Hue City Forest Protection Department, the pangolin received weighs approximately 1.2 kg and is in good health. This is a Javan pangolin (Manis Javanica), which is listed as critically endangered according to the IUCN Red List, belonging to group IB as stipulated in Government Decree No. 06/2019/ND-CP on the management of endangered and rare forest plants and animals. Illegal trade in pangolins is subject to criminal prosecution. The Javan pangolin is listed in Appendix I of the CITES Convention, prohibiting transnational trade and exploitation from the wild.

The safe approach, rescue, and handover of the pangolin to the authorities in the dark of night, with the hope of its rescue and release back into its natural environment, by Vo Duy Linh and Nguyen Hoai Thanh demonstrated a sense of responsibility and awareness in protecting endangered and rare wild animals, contributing to the preservation of biodiversity and the protection of natural resources in accordance with the law.
