Electricity supply in the North is guaranteed following EVN's announcement.
Regarding the electricity supply situation, following information from the Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN), a representative from the Electricity Regulatory Authority stated that from June 23rd, the power system in the North will basically meet electricity demand.

According to the Electricity Regulatory Authority, the reason is the significant increase in water levels in hydropower reservoirs in recent days. In addition, incidents at thermal power plants have been resolved, the connection of renewable energy projects has increased, and the weather in the North has cooled down, reducing the intense demand for electricity.
According to a report from the National Power System Dispatch Center (A0), the total electricity production of the entire system on June 24th reached 773.4 million kWh, of which the electricity production in the North was 344 million kWh, with a peak capacity of 79.4 MW.
For hydropower in the North, with the continued operation of the Hoa Binh , Lai Chau, Thac Ba, Bac Ha, and Nam Chien 1 hydropower plants, the hydropower output on June 24 reached 4,945 million kWh, an increase of 17.4 million kWh compared to June 23.
Water inflow into hydropower reservoirs has increased rapidly compared to yesterday: Lai Chau reservoir: 782 m3/s; Son La reservoir: 2,220 m3/s; Hoa Binh reservoir: 769 m3/s; Thac Ba reservoir: 341 m3/s; Tuyen Quang reservoir: 901 m3/s; Ban Chat reservoir: 805 m3/s. The current water levels in Son La, Lai Chau, Tuyen Quang, and Ban Chat reservoirs are all 10-20 meters higher than the dead storage levels.

Mr. Tran Viet Hoa, Director of the Electricity Regulatory Authority, said that the North is currently experiencing early floods, and it is expected that the water flow into reservoirs in the North will continue to increase in the coming period, potentially ensuring electricity supply with an average calculated load of approximately 421-425 million kWh/day.
However, due to the current low water levels in hydropower reservoirs, the available capacity of the generating units remains reduced, so the maximum load capacity of the Northern power system is estimated at around 344.0 MW depending on the time of day in June.
"In extreme cases where there is no flooding or the inflow into the reservoirs is low, the northern region can still use the remaining water in the reservoirs combined with the natural inflow to the reservoirs to meet the load demand; however, water storage capacity will be difficult," Mr. Hoa said.
For the central and southern regions, the goal is to ensure electricity supply and avoid the need for oil-fired power plants in the near future. In cases of unusually high load increases or failures at multiple thermal power plants, oil-fired power plants can be flexibly mobilized to meet demand.
Regarding temperature, forecasts indicate that temperatures in late June and early to mid-July will not be as extreme as in late May and early June, so the demand for household electricity is unlikely to surge as it has recently.
The forecast for average daily electricity demand in the North is approximately 421.7 million kWh. With proper operating procedures and the effective and synchronized implementation of solutions to ensure electricity supply, the Northern power system will essentially meet the demand.
Several solutions are being implemented to ensure electricity supply in the coming period.
To continue ensuring a safe, stable, and efficient electricity supply from now until the end of the 2023 dry season and in preparation for the 2024 dry season, Mr. Tran Viet Hoa provided the following information:
" The Ministry of Industry and Trade continues to monitor and direct units to implement several key solutions such as: having a rational operating regime for hydropower and thermal power sources in the North; hydropower plants must closely monitor weather developments to have appropriate operating regimes to ensure output and capacity."
In addition, thermal power plants in the North need to ensure maximum availability and secure sufficient coal fuel for electricity production. Thermal power plants must constantly monitor and closely supervise the operation of their equipment, absolutely preventing any subjective incidents during the current period of electricity supply stress.
Units must accelerate the progress of projects to increase the load capacity of power lines, strengthen on-call duty, and inspect and review the transmission grid to quickly detect and handle equipment abnormalities, minimizing the possibility of incidents.
Continue to vigorously and comprehensively implement solutions for electricity saving, focusing resources and accelerating the progress of putting into operation the types of power sources under construction, especially in the northern region.
In response to the risk of electricity shortages, on the afternoon of June 24th, the Minister of Industry and Trade held a meeting with 10 provinces that have liquefied natural gas (LNG) power plants, including: Quang Ninh, Thai Binh, Thanh Hoa, Nghe An, Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Ninh Thuan, Binh Thuan, Long An, and Bac Lieu.
In the concluding statement of the meeting, the Minister of Industry and Trade requested the provincial Party committees, People's Committees of provinces and cities, and relevant agencies and units to accelerate the progress of LNG power plant projects to ensure they are completed on schedule according to the approved plan.
For projects that already have investors, localities should focus on expediting progress and creating favorable conditions for investors to implement the projects; promptly resolving or assisting in resolving difficulties and obstacles (especially regarding land, infrastructure, environment, etc.) so as not to affect the project's progress.
Actively and effectively coordinate with investors, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, and relevant ministries and agencies during the investment preparation and project implementation process to promptly resolve arising obstacles and ensure progress and efficiency.
