Attending the ceremony were comrades: Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh - former Vice President; Senior Lieutenant General Le Chiem - former Deputy Minister of National Defense; Luong Nguyen Minh Triet - Alternate member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee; Le Van Dung - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
The 420th anniversary of the name Duy Xuyen is an opportunity for each Duy Xuyen person to return to their roots, honor and spread the historical, cultural values, and glorious revolutionary traditions of the land and people of Duy Xuyen. At the same time, it also motivates the Party Committee, government and people of the entire district to continue writing the heroic history, creating miracles of the name Duy Xuyen in the new period.
In 1604, the name Duy Xuyen was born.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Phan Xuan Canh - Chairman of Duy Xuyen District People's Committee said that in 1306, when King Chiem Che Man handed over two districts, Chau O and Chau Ly, to Dai Viet, it opened the way for Vietnamese immigrants to migrate to Quang Nam. Following the expansion of the territory to the South, Vietnamese immigrants lived together with the Cham people to establish and organize villages in the new land.
On that basis, in 1471, King Le Thanh Tong established the Quang Nam Provincial Governorate. In the 47th year of Giap Thin (1604), Lord Tien Nguyen Hoang took Dien Ban district of Trieu Phong prefecture and established it as Dien Ban prefecture, managing 5 districts (Tan Phuc, An Nong, Hoa Vang, Dien Khanh, Phu Chau) under Quang Nam province. He changed Tien Binh prefecture to Quang Binh prefecture, Tu Ngai prefecture to Quang Ngai prefecture, Le Giang district of Thang Hoa prefecture to Le Duong district, Hy Giang district to Duy Xuyen district. From that time on, the administrative name of Duy Xuyen district was officially born.
On the journey of founding Quang Nam, Duy Xuyen land has created historical and cultural values with the cultural exchange of Sa Huynh - Champa - Dai Viet, contributing greatly to the history of Quang Nam and the nation, becoming a land rich in traditional historical, cultural and revolutionary heroic values.
This is also the hometown of many famous patriots, intellectuals and writers such as Le Thien Tri, Ho Trung Luong, Vo Hanh, Le Quang Sung, Nguyen Thanh Han, Ho Nghinh, Ho Thau, Ho Lien, Truong Chi Cuong, Bui Giang...; many tangible and intangible cultural heritages such as My Son temple complex, Tra Kieu citadel, the tombs of the Nguyen Lords, the art of singing tuong, sac tau, ba trao, folk songs and many traditional folk festivals such as Ba Thu Bon festival, Ba Chua Tam Tang festival, Cau Ngu festival, Ba Chiem Son festival... are preserved and maintained to this day.
Mr. Phan Xuan Canh emphasized: “Duy Xuyen is famous for its tradition of studiousness and mandarinism with 2 doctors, 5 vice doctors, 54 bachelors in historical dynasties. This place has been preserving a rich treasure of tangible and intangible cultural heritage with 1 world cultural heritage - My Son, 5 national historical and cultural relics, 1 national intangible cultural heritage, 48 provincial historical and cultural relics... This is truly an important part of the national cultural heritage, a priceless asset that generations of Duy Xuyen people pass on to future generations”.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung said that the past 420 years have been a period of time in which each field and mountain of this sacred land has left a very special mark, soaked in the sweat, blood and tears of our ancestors who have worked hard to shape the beautiful silk-like Duy Xuyen land today.
And, over that time, although Duy Xuyen's boundaries have shifted with neighboring districts, generations of Duy Xuyen people have always preserved, promoted, and focused on building so that this place can develop and progress day by day.
Rich in patriotic tradition
The rich history and culture passed down through thousands of years have forged the traditional values of the land and people of Duy Xuyen. In which, the tradition of patriotism and revolution is like a continuous flow, a source that nurtures the will, determination, bravery and aspiration to rise up of the land and people of Duy Xuyen in the face of many difficulties and challenges.
According to Mr. Phan Xuan Canh, the heroic history of this land always remembers the merits of 17,424 outstanding children of the homeland and thousands of cadres and soldiers from all over the country who fought bravely and sacrificed on the Duy Xuyen battlefield; including the great sharing of the Party Committee and people of Nong Cong district (Thanh Hoa province) which is its sister district. Duy Xuyen is also a locality with many heroic Vietnamese mothers who have been awarded and posthumously awarded by the State with 2,091 mothers, currently 87 mothers are still alive.
Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung said that Duy Xuyen is a land with a rich history, culture and revolutionary tradition, the birthplace of many outstanding children, making great contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation. Over the past 420 years since the name Duy Xuyen was born, generations of people here have always protected and built this land to develop day by day.
“During the resistance war against colonialists and imperialists, the Party Committee, government, army and people of Duy Xuyen constantly promoted the spirit of solidarity, steadfast revolutionary will, bravery and courage in fighting against the invaders. Many uprisings broke out one after another, many national salvation movements were born, many outstanding sons of the homeland fought bravely, sacrificed and established many glorious feats... so that Duy Xuyen became known as the homeland of many patriots, intellectuals, and famous writers; the homeland of scholars and revolution” - Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung emphasized.
Duy Xuyen new day
From a locality that was heavily devastated during the war, but after a short time, Duy Xuyen gradually changed its appearance. From a poor, purely agricultural district, having to receive aid from the central government every year, with agricultural production as the main economic activity, Duy Xuyen now has a positive economic structure. The proportion of industry - construction, service - tourism has gradually increased and is aiming for tourism to be a key economic sector.
Along with the active transformation of economic structure and labor structure, Duy Xuyen has many programs and projects calling for investment and forming industrial clusters in the west, central and east. The number of workers in the district working in factories and enterprises is more than 20,000.
The industrial and handicraft production value of Duy Xuyen district reaches nearly 4,300 billion VND each year. The average annual economic growth rate is 10.8%, the average income per capita is 55 million VND/year, the poverty rate has now decreased to 2.06% and there are no more households living in temporary houses.
Education and training work has always been given due attention. The district has 23/46 public schools that meet national standards at level 2 and quality assessment at level 3, accounting for 50%. The results of the excellent student exams of high schools are always at the top of the province. The activities of the District Medical Center have increasingly changed positively with a scale of 345 hospital beds, 4 functional rooms, 9 specialized departments and 14 commune and town medical stations that meet national standards.
Regarding new rural construction, up to now, the whole district has 11/11 communes recognized as meeting new rural standards, of which 4 communes Duy Hoa, Duy Trinh, Duy Phuoc, Duy Son meet advanced new rural standards; Duy Nghia, Duy Hai communes and Nam Phuoc town are striving to build to meet type IV urban standards by 2025. The district continues to strive to become a district meeting advanced new rural standards by 2025.
According to Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Van Dung, in the coming time, Duy Xuyen needs to continue to strengthen the work of building a clean and strong Party Committee and political system from the district to the grassroots level; maintain solidarity, unity and ensure principles and discipline, improve the quality of Party activities associated with promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style.
Focus on accelerating the economic restructuring process towards trade - services, industry - handicrafts and agriculture. Unleash tourism potential, especially green destinations and green products to become the top choice destinations. In particular, take the World Cultural Heritage My Son and Hoiana as the center to attract investment in tourism and service development in the western and eastern regions, creating widespread influence, combining the exploitation of traditional craft village tourism and spirituality in areas in the district.
Effectively exploit the advantages of a locality with mountainous, plain and coastal terrain. Focus on site clearance associated with resettlement, stabilizing people's lives; actively mobilize and effectively use investment resources to develop industrial cluster infrastructure, creating a driving force for development. Exploit the sea space to develop tourism, accommodation and high-quality resort services.
Focus on completing the urban development planning of Nam Phuoc town, Duy Hai - Duy Nghia urban area... in a modern direction, associated with regional economic development. Coordinate with provincial sectors to soon complete detailed urban construction plans for other localities so that Duy Xuyen will soon become a town by 2030.
On the other hand, focus on the task of developing culture and society, improving the quality of people's lives. Better implement social security policies, promote socialization, mobilize resources to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses for policy families, poor and near-poor households. Improve the quality of education - training, health care, and people's health care. Effectively implement sustainable poverty reduction, care for policy beneficiaries, people with revolutionary contributions and vulnerable groups. At the same time, maintain national defense and security.
