(Dan Tri Newspaper) - On the evening of December 6th, the VinFuture 2024 Awards Ceremony was solemnly held at the Ho Guom Theater (Hoan Kiem District) with the participation, speech, and award presentation by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh .
On the evening of December 6th, the VinFuture 2024 Awards Ceremony was held at the Ho Guom Theater in Hanoi. Many leading scientists from Vietnam and abroad were present to honor the winners of the 4th VinFuture Science and Technology Award. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, along with Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong - Chairman of Vingroup and founder of the VinFuture Foundation - entered the Ho Guom Theater to attend the awards ceremony . Also present at the ceremony were Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son, and representatives from central government ministries and agencies. All the delegates in the auditorium solemnly participated in the flag-raising ceremony. This was a major event organized to honor outstanding scientists and groundbreaking research, aiming to build a more equitable and better world , and contributing to solving common challenges facing humanity. Opening remarks by Professor Sir Richard Henry Friend - Chairman of the VinFuture Awards Council. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated at the awards ceremony: "Vietnam has always paid special attention to science and technology and innovation, considering it an objective requirement, a strategic choice, a top priority, and a national policy to promote rapid and sustainable development in the new era - the era of the nation's rise to prosperity and strength, as General Secretary To Lam has outlined." The two founders of the VinFuture Foundation - Mr. Pham Nhat Vuong and Ms. Pham Thu Huong - took to the stage to present lotus flowers, one of Vietnam's cultural symbols, to the members of the Awards Council and the Preliminary Judging Panel. The first award , for scientists from developing countries , was given to Dr. Firdausi Qadri of Bangladesh for her work "Innovation in oral cholera vaccines for developing countries," aiming to end the global cholera epidemic. The VinFuture 2024 Special Award for Female Scientists was presented to Professor Kristi Anseth, a scientist from the United States, for her advancements in polymer material design and methods for biomedical applications. This work not only lays the foundation for research aimed at tissue preservation and regeneration but is also expected to create a breakthrough in the field of regenerative medicine. VinFuture is the first and only award in the world to have a dedicated category honoring female scientists. The third award for New Field Research Scientist was given to Professor Zelig Eshhar (Israel), Professor Carl H. June (USA), and Professor Michel Sadelain (USA) for their work in developing CAR-T cell therapy for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh took the stage to present the main award, worth US$3 million, from VinFuture to five scientists for their groundbreaking contributions to advancing Deep Learning, including: - Professor Yoshua Bengio and Professor Geoffrey E. Hinton, from Canada, for their pioneering research on neural networks and Deep Learning algorithms. - Mr. Jen-Hsun Huang, from the United States, for his algorithmic architecture for deep learning and accelerated computing. - Professor Yann Lecun, from the United States, for his pioneering research on convolutional neural networks for computer vision. - Professor Fei-Fei Li, from the United States, for his pioneering contributions to computer vision and large-scale image recognition.
With the success of four consecutive seasons, the VinFuture Award has increasingly affirmed its position as one of the world's leading prestigious science and technology awards. In particular, the growing number of VinFuture Award winners who continue to be honored at prestigious international awards worldwide demonstrates VinFuture's vision and pioneering spirit.
