Minister of Finance Ho Duc Phoc has just signed a decision appointing Mr. Mai Xuan Thanh to the position of Director General of the General Department of Taxation for a fixed term, effective from September 6, 2023.
Last February, Mr. Mai Xuan Thanh was transferred and appointed by the Ministry of Finance to the position of Deputy Director General of the General Department of Taxation, acting as Director General of the General Department of Taxation. Prior to that, Mr. Thanh held the position of Deputy Director General of the General Department of Customs.
Mr. Mai Xuan Thanh was born in 1968 in Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province. He graduated from the University of Finance and Accounting and has over 30 years of experience in the finance industry.

Mr. Thanh has worked at the General Department of Customs since September 1994, initially as a specialist in the Import and Export Tax Collection and Inspection Department, and later as Deputy Head of the Tax Valuation Division within the Import and Export Tax Collection and Inspection Department.
Subsequently, Mr. Thanh held various positions: Deputy Director of the Anti-Smuggling Investigation Department; Director of the Kien Giang Provincial Customs Department; Director of the Inspection and Examination Department; Deputy Director General of the General Department of Customs; Deputy Director General, Acting Director General of the General Department of Taxation.
Previously, Mr. Cao Anh Tuan – Director General of the General Department of Taxation – was appointed to the position of Deputy Minister of Finance.
Currently, the leadership of the General Department of Taxation includes: Director General Mai Xuan Thanh, and Deputy Directors General: Mr. Phi Van Tuan, Mr. Dang Ngoc Minh, Mr. Vu Chi Hung, and Mr. Mai Son.
