At the end of the year, there will be no more price gouging or bundled extras.
In previous years, as Tet (Lunar New Year) approached, the familiar story at gasoline-powered motorcycle dealerships was "out of colors," "out of models," and "shortage of stock." Customers wanting to get their bikes early had to buy additional accessory packages, even accepting a premium of tens of millions of dong compared to the manufacturer's suggested retail price. Therefore, for many years, the period leading up to Tet was a time when motorcycle manufacturers and dealerships made a fortune, as consumers were forced to spend money and had almost no other options.

However, this year, the Vietnamese motorcycle market is witnessing a contrasting trend. A survey conducted at several motorcycle dealerships in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City in early December showed that gasoline-powered motorcycles are simultaneously seeing price reductions.
The popular Honda Vision is currently being sold by many dealerships for prices starting from 30.9 million VND, depending on the version, lower than Honda Vietnam 's suggested retail price of 31.3 million VND. This is considered an unusual phenomenon compared to a few years ago, when the Vision's price was always inflated by several million VND depending on consumer demand, especially during the end-of-year period.

Not only Vision, but other Honda scooter models are also being sold by dealerships at their original prices, instead of being sold at inflated prices as before. For example, the SH Mode is currently commonly sold for around 59-67 million VND; the Lead from 41-47.5 million VND; and the Air Blade at 46-53 million VND depending on the version.
A similar situation is occurring with other gasoline-powered motorcycle brands. The Yamaha Janus is currently discounted by 2 million VND, down to 27-31 million VND depending on the version. The Yamaha Exciter has been reduced by more than 2 million VND and is now selling for around 46-53 million VND. In addition, Piaggio dealerships are also offering discounts and promotions on Liberty and Vespa models.
The driving force behind the change comes from VinFast electric motorcycles.
Experts explain that the rapid popularization of electric vehicles, especially VinFast electric motorcycles, has fundamentally changed the habits, expectations, and selection criteria of Vietnamese consumers.
According to market analyst Le Minh Quan, VinFast is a key factor in this transformation. He believes the emergence of a well-invested domestic brand that continuously upgrades its products and service standards has steered the motorcycle market in a healthier and more positive direction.

For example, in terms of product range, the emergence of VinFast has brought a breath of fresh air to the market, with beautiful electric motorbike models, meticulously designed to meet the needs of all customer segments, from students and office workers to ride-hailing drivers… In particular, after many years on the market, Vietnamese-branded electric motorbikes have built a strong reputation with users due to their durable quality, many modern technologies, and good features.
The expert also mentioned a unique feature not found in other car manufacturers on the market: a continuously upgraded product range to cater to all user needs. He cited the example of models with dual batteries that can be detached for flexible charging, offering an impressive driving range, even better than many gasoline-powered models. He also mentioned VinFast's electric motorcycle model with interchangeable batteries, a way to maximize convenience for Vietnamese users.
On the other hand, many users have also felt reassured since the arrival of VinFast. The Vietnamese brand has the longest vehicle warranty period on the market – up to 6 years for the vehicle and 8 years for the LFP battery, twice as long as its gasoline-powered competitors. In addition, the company is implementing many practical support policies for users, such as free charging at public stations until May 2027, making daily operating costs almost zero.
“ When VinFast introduced models with beautiful designs, good quality, and superior after-sales service, consumers realized that electric vehicles could fully meet their daily transportation needs, and even offer superior comfort and safety compared to gasoline-powered cars ,” the expert analyzed.
According to experts, VinFast's leading position is changing the "rules of the game" in the motorcycle market in a way that benefits consumers. "From a consumer's perspective, this is good news. Without a strong pull from electric vehicles, it would be difficult for the gasoline motorcycle market to accept price reductions for the benefit of consumers. VinFast has contributed to making the market more transparent and more advantageous for the people," Mr. Quan said.
However, according to experts, in the context of increasing air pollution and traffic congestion, the shift to electric vehicles is no longer a "funny" or "temporary trend," but is becoming an inevitable choice. Therefore, gasoline car manufacturers may compete on price in the short term, but in the long term, the trend towards electrification remains irreversible.
