On August 13, the Ho Chi Minh City Urban Infrastructure Construction Investment Project Management Board (abbreviated as the Construction Infrastructure Board) started the project of dredging, constructing infrastructure and improving the environment of the North bank of Doi Canal located in District 8 (old).

The project will build about 4.3 km of embankment on the North bank of the Doi Canal, combined with dredging the riverbed. At the same time, Hoai Thanh Street and Nguyen Duy Street along the canal bank will be widened to 20 m and a new Nguyen Duy extended street will be built (from alley 157 Hung Phu to the Y-shaped bridge) with a road width of 16 m and Hiep An 2 Bridge.

In addition to the above items, the investor will synchronously construct a rainwater drainage system, wastewater drainage system, trees, lighting system and an inland waterway wharf.

The project has a total investment of more than 7,300 billion VND, invested by the City budget. According to the plan, the project will be completed in 2028.

Ho Chi Minh City leaders performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the project to dredge, build infrastructure and improve the environment of the North bank of the Doi Canal.

In implementing the project, one of the biggest challenges is compensation and site clearance as it affects 1,605 households, with a land acquisition area of about 5.85 hectares.

According to the report of the Construction Infrastructure Board, up to now, 1,272 households have agreed to the compensation plan, 387 cases have handed over the land. The city has prepared housing funds to resettle 162 cases to ensure a better life for people after relocation.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Bui Xuan Cuong emphasized that the Doi Canal is an important waterway, playing a role in the drainage and waterway transport system connecting Ho Chi Minh City with the Western provinces. For many years, this area has been polluted, flooded, and the infrastructure has degraded.

Once completed, the project will change the face of the urban area along the Doi Canal, solve environmental pollution, prevent flooding, enhance water transport connectivity, and improve the quality of life for people in the area.

Mr. Cuong said that in the process of implementing key urban beautification projects of the City such as Xuyen Tam Canal, Van Thanh Canal, and now the North bank of Doi Canal..., the City issued many special and outstanding policies so that people affected by the project have enough funds to relocate and create a new, better life.

In order for the project to be completed on schedule, the Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested the investor to mobilize maximum human resources and equipment for construction to ensure progress.

For the remaining sections that have not been cleared, Mr. Cuong requested that Chanh Hung and Phu Dinh wards hand over the site to the investor next September to construct the project.
