According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, most public high schools in the city have increased their enrollment quotas for 10th grade.
Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have 116,296 students graduating from junior high school.
Accordingly, the schools that increased their enrollment quotas the most were those in suburban and outlying areas, with increases ranging from 90 to 180 students depending on the school. In the inner city, most schools also increased their quotas by 45 to 135 students.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City will have a new high school, Tran Dai Nghia Junior and Senior High School, which is expected to enroll 225 students in grade 10.
The reason for the increased enrollment quota is that Ho Chi Minh City is expected to have 116,296 students graduating from junior high school by the end of May 2024, more than 5,000 students more than last year.
Meanwhile, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training maintains the same 70% enrollment rate for junior high school graduates in public high schools as in previous years.
The Department will announce the specific enrollment quotas for 10th grade in public high schools for the 2024-2025 school year this April.
Increased number of applicants for specialized and integrated 10th-grade classes.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training announced that this year each candidate will be allowed to register for 3 preferences for specialized and integrated 10th-grade classes (compared to only 2 preferences per candidate last year).
Specifically, each candidate will have a maximum of 6 preferences for 10th grade. Of these, 3 preferences will be for regular high schools, as before. The number of preferences for specialized or integrated high schools will increase from 2 to 3.
This means each candidate can register for 3 preferences for regular 10th grade classes and 3 preferences for specialized 10th grade classes (or 3 preferences for integrated 10th grade classes). Candidates who have registered for specialized 10th grade classes are not allowed to register for integrated 10th grade classes, and vice versa.
Implement the regulations for specialized high schools issued by the Ministry of Education and Training.
This year, Ho Chi Minh City and other provinces and cities nationwide are implementing the regulations for specialized high schools issued by the Ministry of Education and Training. Le Hong Phong Specialized High School and Tran Dai Nghia Specialized High School will no longer enroll students in non-specialized or integrated 10th-grade classes.
Therefore, 9th-grade students will no longer have two choices for admission to non-specialized 10th-grade classes in specialized schools, nor two choices for admission to integrated 10th-grade classes in specialized schools.
In previous years, a candidate could have a maximum of 7 preferences for 10th grade. These included 3 preferences for regular high schools, 2 preferences for specialized high schools (or 2 preferences for integrated high schools), and 2 preferences for non-specialized high schools within specialized high schools.
