Duc Le Thanh Marquis Nguyen Huu Canh (1650 - 1700), a talented general during the reign of Lord Nguyen Phuc Chu, was famous for leading troops to quell many border rebellions.

He is considered the general who opened up the South by establishing sovereignty for the Vietnamese people in the South in 1698.

From that time on, this land officially became part of Dai Viet territory, which is Vietnam today. He was the first person to establish the administrative system in the Southern region.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Minh Hong - Permanent Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Thu Duc City - said that Duc Le Thanh Hau Nguyen Huu Canh is a shining example of serving the country and the people, contributing to protecting the territorial sovereignty of Vietnam of the Nguyen Dynasty, deciding the longevity of the Southern land.
