Mr. Le Dinh Quyet, Head of the Forecasting Department at the Southern Region Meteorological and Hydrological Station, has just released the long-term weather forecast for January 2025.

In particular, according to the latest forecasts, the ENSO trend will remain neutral until early 2025. At the same time, most weather model forecasts from global climate centers predict higher-than-average rainfall in January 2025 for the region; average monthly temperatures are also close to or higher than the multi-year average.

Regarding the weather and topography in the first month of 2025, Mr. Quyet stated that during the first week (January 1-10, 2025), the continental cold high pressure system will strengthen southward and spread to the Southern region. From approximately January 1-5, the low-pressure trough will shift its axis northward, potentially forming a low-pressure area over the southern South China Sea. The northeast monsoon will be of moderate to strong intensity.

Due to the influence of the aforementioned weather patterns, Ho Chi Minh City will experience rain on January 2nd, 3rd, and 4th, with no rain from January 5th to 10th, sunny days, and cool mornings. The lowest temperatures will generally range from 21-24 degrees Celsius. Some areas may experience light fog in the early morning.

During the middle and final weeks, cold air masses become active , intensifying and spreading further south, gradually dissipating into the region. Northeast monsoon winds prevail over the Southern region, generally with moderate to strong intensity.

The weather in the area is currently mostly dry with sunny days. There is a possibility of unseasonal rain, but the amount of rainfall will not be too heavy.

According to Mr. Quyet, the average temperature in January 2025 will generally be about the same as or slightly higher than the multi-year average; commonly ranging from 25.8-27 degrees Celsius, with the highest temperatures reaching 30-33 degrees Celsius and the lowest 20-24 degrees Celsius. Cool nights and early mornings will persist for several days.

At the same time, Mr. Quyet also noted that the total monthly rainfall was generally not much higher than the average for the same period in previous years. Specifically, the rain was concentrated in the first and middle weeks of the month, with a few days of light to moderate rain, while the last week had little rain.

However, according to Mr. Quyet, because January is the peak month of the dry season, even though the total rainfall is higher than the multi-year average, there are still very few rainy days.

The weather in Ho Chi Minh City in December has seen lows of up to 20 degrees Celsius on some days.

According to the Southern Vietnam Regional Hydrometeorological Station, in December 2024, the region will be mainly affected by the southern edge of a strong and continuously spreading cold air mass; the northern low-pressure trough at approximately 4-7 degrees North latitude, sometimes shifting its axis northward; and Typhoon No. 10 appearing in the southern part of the South China Sea...

Due to these fluctuations, Ho Chi Minh City's weather in December will experience about 2-3 periods of unseasonal rain, with some areas experiencing moderate to heavy rain. Temperatures will drop significantly across the area from mid to late December, peaking around Christmas with quite cold nights and early mornings.

Specifically, the average monthly temperature at Nha Be station was 26.9 degrees, 0.9 degrees lower than the previous month and generally fluctuated from 25.5 to 28.2 degrees. On the 22nd, it was significantly lower, with a value of 24.8. The absolute highest temperature was 32.6 degrees, occurring on December 25; the lowest was 20 degrees on December 23.

At the same time, the first half of the month saw two periods of unseasonal rain over a fairly wide area, lasting for several days, with some places experiencing moderate to heavy rain; the second half of the month saw less rain, with most rainfall being insignificant.

Ho Chi Minh City could see temperatures drop below 20 degrees Celsius, with unexpected developments during the dry season.

The spreading cold air mass could cause temperatures in Ho Chi Minh City to drop to 20 degrees Celsius by the end of January. Notably, unseasonal rains will occur throughout the dry months, creating an indistinct dry season.
Another cold front is expected to intensify, bringing severe cold to the North, with temperatures dropping to 10 degrees Celsius.

Around December 31st and January 2nd, 2025, the cold air mass will continue to intensify and move down into our country. It is forecast that on the night of the first day of 2025, the lowest temperature in Hanoi will be 13 degrees Celsius, and in many mountainous areas it will be below 10 degrees Celsius.
