A spokesperson for China's Ministry of Commerce stated: "The responsibility lies entirely with the EU."
According to this official, Beijing hopes that the 27-member bloc will cooperate to resolve disagreements through dialogue and avoid escalating conflicts in the trade sector or allowing the situation to spiral out of control.
EU-China tensions are rising.
Recently, the 21-member bloc announced a fivefold increase in import tariffs on Chinese electric cars starting in July, with additional tariffs ranging from 17.4% to 38.1% to be applied alongside the existing 10% EU tariff.
This means that electric vehicles manufactured in Beijing and imported into the bloc face total tariffs of nearly 50%.
Conversely, the world's second-largest economy is considering the possibility of imposing provisional anti-dumping measures on pork imports from the EU.
Specifically, Chinese authorities have launched an investigation into EU pork and pork products. The investigation focuses on whole carcasses, frozen meat, and pork offal products.
The investigation is expected to be completed before June 17, 2025, but may be extended by another six months if necessary.
* On the same day, during his visit to China, German Economy Minister Robert Habeck stated that he did not expect to reach a solution to the trade tensions after the EU threatened to impose high tariffs on Chinese cars.
Mr. Habeck stated: "We don't see any significant opportunities. There is no chance of resolving the conflict in this Asian country."
