According to Prof. Dr. Pham Hong Chuong, Principal of the National Economics University, in order to prepare the roadmap to upgrade the school to a university, in the second half of this year, the unit will establish 3 more affiliated schools: University of Business, Economics and Technology.

"The school is also urgently preparing the conditions, preparing documents around 2024, striving to follow the plan to go to university in 2025," he said.

Among the three new schools to be established, the School of Economics will focus on training in economic fields with the main output being managers, researchers, planners, builders and implementers of macroeconomic policies.

The Business School aims to train managers and operators of businesses, focusing on microeconomic management.

Although the School of Technology is newly established, it is built on the foundation of three training units that are strongly attracting students: Institute of Information Technology and Digital Economics, Faculty of Economic Mathematics and Faculty of Statistics.

In which, the Faculty of Economic Mathematics and the Faculty of Statistics are both traditional training faculties, formed and developed along with the school's long history, with many successful alumni.

The school focuses on research and training in the fields of development and application of technology in management and business administration. Priority areas will include digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and big data.

Professor Chuong said that in fact, the National Economics University has long desired and determined its development orientation to become a university. To do this, the school has built and issued a development strategy for the period 2021 - 2030, which clearly defines the roadmap towards university.

In the immediate future, the school's goal is to become the highest ranked university in the region and internationally. "The school's priority is to focus on quality and training programs. Regarding the long-term plan in the next 5-10 years, the school strives for students of the National Economics University to be fully equipped with knowledge and skills upon graduation, and at the same time have the necessary courage to respond to the changes in the current environment," said Professor Pham Hong Chuong.

According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training , the country currently has 267 higher education institutions (not including the national security and defense sector). With the Prime Minister's decision, Hanoi University of Science and Technology is the first unit to convert from a university to a university after the Law on Higher Education amended and supplemented in 2018 and Decree 99 in 2019 took effect.

Currently, the country has 6 universities, including Hanoi National University, Ho Chi Minh City National University, Thai Nguyen University, Hue University, Da Nang University and Hanoi University of Technology.
