On January 24, NVT, a student at Thu Dau Mot University, said he was very surprised when his account received more than 3 million VND. The transfer content stated: "Thu Dau Mot University refunds tuition fees for full-time students according to the State Audit's announcement, refunds the excess budget payment."

Student account receives money transferred from school and transfer content

In the morning of the same day, speaking to reporters, a representative of Thu Dau Mot University said that after collecting all the information from former students and students eligible for tuition refunds, the school transferred the money. The total amount is more than 37 billion VND.

According to the school leaders, up to now, the procedures have been completed and the list of more than 10,000 students has been determined, and the school has also transferred money into the students' accounts. The total amount of money refunded to students is 21 billion VND and is continuing to be transferred.

“Refunding tuition fees to students takes a lot of time because we have to check and compare the list and account numbers of students. In addition, the school needs time to carry out the procedures and refund process in accordance with the State's regulations. This is the reason why the school has only now transferred the money to students. The school has made great efforts to transfer the money to students before Tet” - said a representative of Thu Dau Mot University.

Explaining further why the previously collected tuition fees were now refunded, the school leader said that the money collected from students at that time was not yet autonomous, and the budget was still subsidized. The transition period from a state-funded unit ensuring regular expenditures to financial autonomy resulted in a discrepancy. When the audit conclusion was available, the school returned the budget and is now refunding it to the students.

Previously, Tien Phong newspaper reported that the State Audit announced its conclusion after conducting an audit at this school from 2015 to 2021. Accordingly, the State Audit determined that Thu Dau Mot University illegally collected more than VND 37 billion from students in the two school years 2020-2021 and 2021-2022. After the State Audit announced its decision, Thu Dau Mot University transferred the entire amount to the budget.
