Inspiring love for the sea and islands from the story of former Vice President Truong My Hoa

The stories of former Vice President Truong My Hoa have helped Vietnamese students in Russia love and understand more about the sovereignty of their homeland's seas and islands.

Ideals help overcome all difficulties

On May 24, Vietnamese students in the Russian Federation had a special class, when all the "students" focused on the soft voice of the "lecturer" listening as if not wanting to miss a word.

It was an hour with a special speaker. Special not only because she was a former high-ranking leader of the country - former Vice President Truong My Hoa, but also because that small woman was a witness to history, who spent 11 years in an imperial prison, twice in the "hell on earth" prison of Con Dao, after retirement she continued her career of fighting, this time on the front line of protecting the sovereignty of the sea and islands, in the position of head of the club "For Hoang Sa, Truong Sa beloved".

In front of key Youth Union cadres and Vietnamese students studying at universities in Moscow, the former female special forces soldier, through her revolutionary activities, turned back the pages of heroic history written from the blood and sacrifices of previous generations.

She said that only ideals helped her and her comrades overcome torture and terrible revenge, to emerge as victors and go to victory, to unify the country, to peace.

For the generation born and raised when the war was long over, with the opportunity to study in a modern foreign environment, this ideal creates creativity, helping young people make wise choices in their studies, activities and lives.

She emphasized that every year hundreds of Vietnamese students go to Russia to study, where young people have the conditions to have a solid start, but they need to know that in remote islands such as Ly Son, Truong Sa Lon, Song Tu Tay, the territories at the head of the Fatherland, a proper school also requires a lot of effort to build.

The stories told by Ms. Truong My Hoa about how the whole country turned to Truong Sa in a practical way, when the calls were responded to quickly, in which the Vietnamese community in the Russian Federation always took the lead in contributing together with other Vietnamese communities abroad, to build schools, medical stations, roads for island districts, to establish scholarship funds for children in Truong Sa, to maintain a peaceful life for fishermen, to bring compatriots from the mainland to visit the sacred territory...

From gratitude to pride

These simple yet arduous stories have helped today's students understand more deeply that Vietnam's sovereignty over Truong Sa and Hoang Sa is the result of comprehensive and long-term efforts by our entire Party, people and army.

Contributing to that effort is no longer an obligation, but an honor and pride of 100 million Vietnamese people around the world.

Vietnamese students in the Russian Federation attending this event listened to the stories about the sacrifices of previous generations to be grateful for the present and determined for the future.

The Executive Committee of the Youth Union, the Vietnamese Association, and the Tradition and Friendship Fund - the organizers of today's meeting - gave Vietnamese GenZ students in the Russian Federation a valuable "lesson".

Representing all members present at the event, Deputy Secretary of the Vietnamese Party Committee in the Russian Federation Nguyen Hai Dang expressed his gratitude to the previous generations, saying that despite the limited time, the students received from the former Vice President thoughtful and practical instructions on the tasks that need to be set in study and career orientation.

Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee Nguyen Hai Dang pledged to spread and expand to all Vietnamese students and youth in the Russian Federation the significance of the struggle to protect national sovereignty, sovereignty over seas and islands, and the significance of each individual contributing their efforts to the sacred common cause of the entire nation.
