From college to university is a change towards depth

Speaking at the 30th anniversary celebration of Duy Tan University, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son expressed his hope that the transformation from a university to a higher education institution would not simply be a name change, but rather a shift towards greater depth, a liberation of creativity, and modern, intelligent governance.

On the morning of November 10th, Duy Tan University held a ceremony to celebrate its 30th anniversary (November 11, 1994 - November 11, 2024) and announced the Prime Minister 's decision to transform Duy Tan University into Duy Tan University.

The transition from a university to a higher education institution is a choice in terms of organizational and governance model.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son said that in 1994, in implementing the Party and State's policy of educational reform, the Prime Minister signed a decision to establish Duy Tan University, one of the first five private universities in the country in the new era. Overcoming many difficulties and challenges, Duy Tan University has continuously developed and made many contributions to human resource training for Da Nang City, the Central and Central Highlands regions, and the whole country.

Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized that the establishment and development of Duy Tan University has contributed to changing the public-private structure in the university system, transforming the face of higher education, providing many jobs for scientists and learning opportunities for many students, contributing to the reform of education and training; and providing human resources for national development over the past 30 years. The transformation from Duy Tan University to Duy Tan University represents a choice of organizational and management model, as well as a development model demonstrating maturity and a need for new development from within.

"I hope this change is not just a name change, but a change that focuses on depth, on unleashing creativity, and on modern, intelligent governance. I hope the university will operate with a more scientific, advanced, larger-scale, higher-mission, broader-sighted vision, aiming for sustainable development. The change from the organizational model of a university to the organizational model of a university needs to create new impetus and new momentum, unleashing creativity and generating new energy to drive faster and stronger university development in the future. The Government and the Ministry of Education and Training support this development model by supporting the procedures to transform Duy Tan University into Duy Tan University," Minister Nguyen Kim Son affirmed.

"On behalf of the Ministry of Education and Training, with our responsibility for state management, we will always pay attention to, support, and supervise Duy Tan University. Through our supervision and monitoring activities, we will support Duy Tan University to continue and grow stronger," Minister Nguyen Kim Son emphasized.

Focus on presenting projects and initiatives with practical value.

Mr. Le Trung Chinh, Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, stated that as the school celebrates its 30th anniversary, Da Nang City is focusing on implementing Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 on the organization of urban government and piloting some specific mechanisms and policies for Da Nang's development. This is one of the extremely important orientations for the socio-economic development of the city in the coming time.

Mr. Le Trung Chinh acknowledged and highly appreciated the achievements of Duy Tan University throughout its 30-year journey of construction and development.

"The city has always identified the development of human resources, especially high-quality human resources, as one of the key factors in building Da Nang into an ecological, modern, smart city of international stature with its own unique identity. This means that human resource training, especially high-quality human resources in general and Duy Tan University in particular, needs thorough preparation to further improve the quality of training, meeting the increasingly high demands of the economy and the development of society," Mr. Le Trung Chinh emphasized.

The Chairman of the People's Committee of Da Nang City requested that Duy Tan University in particular, and other higher education and vocational education institutions in Da Nang City in general, pay more attention to scientific research, producing works and initiatives with practical value; and to work alongside Da Nang City in pioneering new fields, contributing to making Da Nang a livable, civilized, and modern city.

"Da Nang City always stands alongside and creates favorable conditions for Duy Tan University to develop strongly and make a worthy contribution to the construction and development of the city," Mr. Le Trung Chinh expressed.

In October 2024, the Government issued Decision No. 1115/QD-TTg dated October 7, 2024, transforming Duy Tan University into Duy Tan University, one of eight universities in Vietnam, and also the first and only non-public higher education institution in Vietnam to date that has been converted into a university.

Duy Tan University currently has 7 member schools and 2 research institutes, with 8 training facilities in the center of Da Nang City. The permanent staff consists of 1,526 people, including 1,079 lecturers.
