The Indonesian women's national team is currently undergoing a month-long training camp in Japan. There, the team from the archipelago has chosen quite strong opponents. In their very first match yesterday (September 26th), they experienced the difference in skill level.

Urawa Reds are one of the strongest teams in Japan. They won the 2022/23 season and finished second in the 2021/22 season. They will soon face the Ho Chi Minh City women's team in the AFC Women's Champions League in October. Therefore, the Indonesian women's team is not a match for them.
Urawa Reds played with no mercy for their opponents. In the first half alone, the Japanese team scored eight goals against Indonesia. The Indonesian team managed to score a consolation goal in the 20th minute.
However, in the second half, the Indonesian team showed signs of fatigue and were unable to withstand the relentless attacks from Urawa Reds. In this half, Urawa Reds scored 10 more goals. The match ended with a score of 18-1 in favor of the Japanese team.
Notably, the Indonesian women's team nearly broke the record for the heaviest defeat in history. If Urawa Reds had scored one more goal, they would have become the team with the biggest win against Indonesia. In the past, the Indonesian women's team suffered a 0-18 defeat against the Australian women's team.

Following this defeat, the Indonesian women's team continued their training in Japan. They need to improve significantly to catch up with the level of the teams there.
According to the Indonesian press, the country’s women’s team could welcome more players of Indonesian origin in the Netherlands to improve the quality of the squad. In Southeast Asia, the Philippine women’s team has reached the continental level thanks to the use of many players of American origin. Therefore, Indonesia also wants to use naturalized players to shorten the gap in skill level. The Indonesian men’s team has been very successful with this policy.
