Striker Nguyen Tien Linh owns a "unique" gold medal after the AFF Cup 2024 awards ceremony on the evening of January 5 at Rajamangala Stadium (Bangkok, Thailand). Although it is a gold medal, it has the words "runner up" written on it.
This is not the silver medal awarded to the runner-up team but a faulty gold medal. The gold medal of the AFF Cup 2024 has the word "champion" on it.

When the organizers awarded the medals, Tien Linh himself did not realize this. He and his teammates celebrated the championship and lifted the cup as usual. The Vietnamese team striker still had the medal and took a photo to show off on social media.
It was not until online fans pointed out the unusual points in Tien Linh's photo that the striker discovered it. The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) will work with the Southeast Asian Football Federation (AFF) to exchange the "genuine" medal for Tien Linh.
The standard gold medal has the word "champion" on it.
Tien Linh and his teammates won the AFF Cup 2024 championship after a series of 8 unbeaten matches (7 wins, 1 draw). The Vietnamese team beat Thailand in both matches with a total score of 5-3 to lift the trophy on the away field.
Returning to Vietnam on the afternoon of January 6, the team was awarded the First Class Labor Medal. In addition, 6 players including Tien Linh, Nguyen Quang Hai, Do Duy Manh, Nguyen Hoang Duc and Nguyen Dinh Trieu received the Third Class Labor Medal. Yesterday (January 7), captain Duy Manh and coach Kim Sang-sik brought the trophy to Hung Temple ( Phu Tho ) to report their achievements.
After that, the Vietnamese team officially ended their training session. The players returned to their clubs to prepare for the National Cup and the Southeast Asian Championship. Thanh Hoa Club will play the earliest match, against Pathum United (Thailand) tonight, January 8. Midfielder Doan Ngoc Tan has not returned home but will stay in Bangkok to wait for his teammates from Thanh Hoa Club to come and play.
