Vardy wins the Serie A Player of the Month award. |
This achievement makes the former Leicester City star the first English player in history to win the Serie A Player of the Month award.
The award was voted on by fans in combination with statistical data. Vardy beat out a host of formidable rivals such as goalkeeper Mike Maignan (AC Milan), Lautaro Martinez (Inter), David Neres (Napoli), Leo Ostigard (Genoa) and Nicolo Zaniolo (Udinese).
Serie A General Manager Luigi De Siervo praised him, saying: “Jamie Vardy is a player of a different era, a talent with an inspiring career story, a strong fighting spirit and a pure love of football. Cremonese were very quick to sign him, and Vardy is repaying them with top form, leadership and crucial goals.”
Since the start of this season, Vardy has scored 4 goals in 10 matches across all competitions. Despite Cremonese being only 9th in the table and losing all 3 matches in November, Vardy is a rare bright spot. At 38 years old, the English striker continues to demonstrate his sharp goal-scoring instinct and incredible adaptability to the Italian football environment.
On December 2nd, he scored a brace in the 3-1 victory against Bologna in Serie A. With his current form, the veteran striker is expected to continue leading Cremonese towards successfully avoiding relegation this season.
