On October 15th, Viettel High Tech Corporation was recognized by Gartner in the Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G RAN Infrastructure Solutions 2025 report. This information was announced at the Open RAN Connect 2025 international event, organized by Viettel in Hanoi. This is a significant milestone for Viettel in the field of researching and mastering telecommunications infrastructure, affirming its competitiveness and global position.

The Gartner Magic Quadrant is a prestigious annual report by Gartner – a leading global technology analysis organization – providing a comprehensive overview of the capabilities of critical infrastructure providers for 5G radio access networks (RAN). In the telecommunications infrastructure sector, Viettel High Tech being the only Southeast Asian enterprise recognized by Gartner as a Niche Player demonstrates its pioneering role in commercializing 5G Open RAN base stations based on ASIC chipsets (integrated circuits specifically designed for 5G), with proven large-scale deployment capabilities in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Currently, Viettel's 5G equipment has been widely deployed across the network, with tens of millions of subscribers using Viettel's core network (EPC, 5G Core), millions of optical network and Wi-Fi access terminals, thousands of transmission devices, an OCS billing system serving over 190 million subscribers globally, and an IMS high-quality voice service system serving over 50 million subscribers…
Mr. Nguyen Vu Ha, Deputy General Director of Viettel Group, stated: “Viettel is the first network operator in the world to deploy 5G Open RAN with quality equivalent to leading global providers. We are committed to providing the highest quality products to serve mobile telecommunications operators worldwide.”

In 2025 alone, Viettel will deploy 2,500 5G base stations in provinces such as Hanoi , Ninh Binh, Gia Lai, Lam Dong, Khanh Hoa, and Dak Lak… Viettel's 5G equipment, designed according to international open standards, has also expanded to international markets such as India, UAE, and Turkey… Viettel's 5G base stations have demonstrated superior performance in terms of coverage, capacity, and energy savings of up to 24% compared to similar equipment.
Furthermore, Viettel is continuing to develop advanced generations of 5G (5G-Advanced), 6G, and virtualize its entire network infrastructure... At the same time, it maintains openness and interoperability by continuously participating in technology integration activities and collaborating on products with other Open RAN partners in the O-RAN Alliance.

“After more than 10 years of investment and research to master the national telecommunications and digital infrastructure, Viettel's efforts have been recognized for the first time by a prestigious global organization like Gartner. This is a key factor in promoting the digital economy, digital society, and digital government, and is the key for Vietnam to master strategic technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, blockchain, semiconductors, etc.,” said Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, General Director of Viettel High Tech, adding that this milestone lays a solid foundation for VHT to go further in expanding its market share and developing a global technology ecosystem.
At the event, Mr. Akash Palkhiwala, Chief Financial Officer and Global Chief Operating Officer of Qualcomm, commented: “Viettel has deployed its 5G Open RAN network on a large scale, sharing a common vision with Qualcomm for an open and sustainable ecosystem. We believe in Vietnam's ability to lead in innovation. With 6G, the role of AI and Open RAN technology will become even more important.”

Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich, Director of the Information Technology Industry Department (Ministry of Science and Technology), affirmed that 5G equipment is a national strategic technology product. Since 2019, the Ministry of Science and Technology has set the goal for Vietnam to master the design, research, and production of 5G equipment as a symbol of national technological self-reliance. Viettel's choice of the Open RAN approach demonstrates strategic thinking: not dependent on or restricted by technology, but proactively integrating and innovating.

“Today’s event is not only an achievement for Viettel and Qualcomm, but also an achievement for Vietnam’s digital technology industry. You have proven that Vietnamese people can master the most challenging technologies at the highest level – and more importantly, bring ‘Make in Vietnam’ products to the world,” Mr. Nguyen Khac Lich commented.
Viettel High Tech is the high-tech research and production unit of Viettel Group. Viettel's journey in mastering 5G is highlighted by its success in deploying a large-scale 5G Open RAN network, supporting both 5G NSA (5G based on 4G) and 5G SA (standalone 5G), along with the entire end-to-end 5G solution ecosystem researched and developed by the company.
