Vietnam is closely monitoring and deeply concerned about reports of the incident that occurred on June 17, 2024, in the Second Thomas Shoal area between the Philippines and China.
On June 21, in response to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's reaction to the June 17, 2024 collision between a Chinese ship and a Philippine supply ship at Second Thomas Shoal, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang stated that Vietnam is closely monitoring and deeply concerned about the information regarding the incident that occurred on June 17, 2024, in the Second Thomas Shoal area between the Philippines and China.
Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized that Vietnam requests all relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint, act in accordance with international law, respect the sovereign rights and jurisdiction over the exclusive economic zones and continental shelves of coastal states established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, seriously and fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea (DOC), respect and comply with international regulations on maritime and air safety, prevent collisions at sea, resolve disputes and differences through peaceful means, and make positive contributions to maintaining peace, stability, and sustainable development in the region.
