On June 21, in response to a reporter's question asking about Vietnam's reaction to the collision on June 17, 2024 between a Chinese ship and a Philippine supply ship at Second Thomas Shoal, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang said that Vietnam closely monitors and is deeply concerned about the information about the incident that took place on June 17, 2024 in the Second Thomas Shoal area between the Philippines and China.

Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang emphasized that Vietnam requests relevant parties to exercise maximum restraint, act in accordance with international law, respect sovereignty and jurisdiction over the exclusive economic zone and continental shelf of coastal states established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, seriously and fully implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC), respect and comply with international regulations on maritime and aviation safety, collision prevention at sea, resolve disputes and differences by peaceful means, and actively contribute to maintaining peace, stability and sustainable development in the region./.
