On the morning of June 21, in response to a reporter's question asking for Vietnam's reaction to the June 17 collision between a Chinese ship and a Philippine supply ship at Second Thomas Shoal, Spokesperson of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang stated:

"Vietnam is closely monitoring and deeply concerned about reports of the incident that occurred on June 17, 2024, in the Second Thomas Shoal area between the Philippines and China."
