Deputy Foreign Minister Do Hung Viet represented Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son to attend the Mekong-US Partnership Foreign Ministers' Meeting. |
This conference commemorates the 15th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the Mekong and the United States, which began with the Lower Mekong Initiative and was upgraded to the Mekong-US Partnership in 2020. Member countries assessed that through the successful implementation of the 2021-2023 Action Plan, MUSP has contributed to improving the capacity to adapt to climate change and energy transition, ensuring food - energy - water security.

Vietnam and the Mekong countries emphasized the need for the sub-region to become a core element in MUSP cooperation, and proposed a number of priorities in the coming time on climate change response, sustainable water resource management, economic connectivity, infrastructure development, business network connectivity, building a high-tech workforce, and encouraging leading research institutes of member countries to conduct joint research on new and emerging technologies.
The conference adopted the Co-Chairs Statement of the 3rd MUSP Ministerial Meeting and the MUSP Action Plan 2024-2026 along with a list of specific projects. At the conference, Laos also transferred the role of co-chairing MUSP cooperation to Thailand.
