The 7th session of the United Nations Environment Assembly (UNEA-7) will take place from December 8-12, 2025 in Nairobi, Kenya. The conference will bring together more than 190 member states, along with representatives from international organizations, development partners, the scientific community, and businesses.
This year's UNEA-7 theme sends a powerful message, highlighting the urgent need to promote sustainable solutions and strengthen the planet's resilience to environmental challenges. It also serves as a reminder that sustainable development, with its three pillars of economic , social, and environmental progress, is a crucial foundation for a just, equitable, and inclusive world.
In this spirit, a resilient planet is one where ecosystems are protected, resource use is improved, production and consumption patterns are oriented towards sustainability, and science, technology , and innovation are promoted to predict and mitigate environmental risks. These goals can only be achieved when linked to transparent, effective, inclusive environmental governance and respect for human rights to a healthy, safe, and sustainable environment.
The Vietnamese negotiating delegation, led by Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department (Ministry of Agriculture and Environment) Vu Duc Dam Quang, fully participated in the plenary sessions, high-level dialogues, and thematic discussions within the framework of UNEA-7. The active presence of the Vietnamese delegation at the United Nations' largest environmental forum further demonstrates Vietnam's responsibility in global environmental processes and affirms its determination to contribute to the common efforts in addressing pollution, environmental degradation, and climate change.

On the sidelines of the conference, the Vietnamese delegation conducted a series of important bilateral activities, including a working session with the European Union (EU) Delegation and the Global Plastics Action Partnership (GPAP).
During the meeting with the EU delegation, both sides had in-depth discussions on future cooperation directions, including the implementation of international environmental commitments, joint efforts towards achieving a global agreement on plastic pollution, and improving waste management capacity and air quality. Vietnam affirmed its readiness to cooperate closely with the EU to promote multilateral negotiation processes in a way that balances and harmonizes the interests of all countries.
During the working visit, the delegation also held discussions with GPAP. GPAP representatives assessed Vietnam as one of the leading countries in the region regarding policies to reduce plastic waste, particularly with the enactment of the 2020 Environmental Protection Law and regulations on extended producer responsibility (EPR). The organization expressed its desire to continue collaborating to support Vietnam in negotiating the global plastics agreement, improving the database, promoting market-based solutions, and mobilizing resources for plastic reduction projects in Vietnam.

The results of attending UNEA-7 contributed to strengthening Vietnam's position in international environmental cooperation, supporting the green transition process domestically, and affirming its commitment to working alongside the international community for a safer, more sustainable, and more resilient planet.
