Visa launches first “tap to go” payment solution in Hanoi

Following the success in Ho Chi Minh City, Visa is working with relevant parties to implement Visa card payment transactions on Metro Line 2A (Cat Linh - Ha Dong), helping to bring a smarter and more convenient travel experience, while promoting digital payments in public transport - an important foundation of smart cities and modern urban life.

On December 5, 2025, Visa - the world's leading electronic payment technology company, in collaboration with Hanoi Metro Company Limited (Hanoi Metro), announced the deployment of Visa's "tap-to-ride" solution on Metro Line 2A (Cat Linh - Ha Dong), after its successful deployment on Metro Line 1 of Ho Chi Minh City (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien). The event took place under the witness of Ministries, Departments, Branches, leaders of Hanoi City, Banks and businesses, marking an important step in the digital transformation process of the Capital.

Visa is working with Hanoi Metro and other stakeholders to upgrade the payment system and implement biometric authentication on all Metro lines operated by Hanoi Metro under the direction of the Hanoi People's Committee. With the direction and support of the Hanoi People's Committee, the Ministry of Public Security and the Ministry of Construction, the project provides residents and tourists with a secure, seamless and borderless payment experience.

With the “tap to go” solution, passengers on Metro Line 2A can now: Tap their Visa card, mobile device or smart wearable device directly at the ticket gate to travel without cash or paper tickets. Buy tickets on the Hanoi Metro app and pay with a Visa card. Customers will scan the QR code of the single ticket/daily ticket/weekly ticket/monthly ticket displayed on the Hanoi Metro app at the control gate to make safe and convenient transactions in travel.

Transactions are processed on the Cybersource platform – one of the world's leading payment gateways especially in the field of transportation and public services, ensuring safety, flexibility and scalability, supporting international cards and many other payment methods.

Take Metro - Tap Visa card", to bring maximum benefits to people, businesses and tourists in Vietnam. On the occasion of the launch of cashless payment on Line 2A, passengers can enjoy free trips by tapping their Visa card at the control gate, starting today and lasting until further notice.
