On the evening of September 6, U23 Malaysia had a resounding 7-0 victory over U23 Mongolia in the second match of Group F of the 2026 AFC U23 Championship qualifiers.
This victory helps the "Malaysian Tigers" revive their hopes of reaching the finals because in the opening match they suffered a shocking loss to Lebanon.
Determined to secure all three points, the U23 Malaysia team completely dominated the game from the opening minutes. They quickly took the lead in the 12th minute thanks to Aliff Izwan.
Just two minutes later, Aysar Hadi doubled the lead for the Southeast Asian team. Before the first half ended, Fergus Tierney added his name to the scoresheet in the 38th minute, giving Malaysia a 3-0 lead.
Entering the second half, the game situation did not change as U23 Malaysia continued to increase pressure.
Fergus Tierney had a brilliant day when he scored two goals in the 48th and 49th minutes to complete his hat-trick.
Despite taking a large lead, coach E. Elavarasan's players didn't stop there. Aliff Izwan Yuslan scored his second goal of the match in the 63rd minute, before Ziad El Basheer sealed the 7-0 victory in the 69th minute.
This victory not only gave the Malaysian U23 team their first three points but also significantly improved their goal difference. They will face Thailand U23 in a crucial match in the final round to secure a spot in the finals in Saudi Arabia.
