Despite the economic difficulties, thanks to hard work and savings, in 2005, Mrs. Nguyen Thi Hiep and her husband invested in 8 cages, each with an area of 16m2 to raise fish such as: cobia, grouper, red snapper, pompano... Because she did not have much capital, Mrs. Hiep bought fish feed at the warehouse on a pay-later basis. After each harvest, after paying the costs, she saved a sum of capital to invest in the next crop.

In November 2017, storm No. 12 (Damrey) swept through Khanh Hoa province, and all of her family's fish cages were destroyed by the waves. The batch of fish ready for harvest was swept away, causing damage of hundreds of millions of dong. Not only was she left empty-handed after the storm, she also owed nearly 500 million dong for fish feed. Not giving up, she pulled herself together, borrowed 80 million dong from relatives to build 10 new cages and buy fish fry and feed to continue raising fish. Every day, around 3 a.m., she drove to Quang Hoi Fishing Port (Van Thang commune) to buy fish feed, then brought it back and brought it to the cages to feed the fish. She and her husband did all the fish farming work themselves. Marine fish farming is difficult and hard, depending on the weather, prices, output, tides, etc., but she never gave up. Thanks to her determination and hard work, she was able to pay off her debts, send her children to school and stabilize her family life.
In early 2024, the Commune Women's Union supported her with a loan of 50 million VND from the Social Policy Bank's employment fund to raise fish in cages at sea. She used the loan to buy fish fry, food, etc. to raise fish. In July 2025, she continued to invest in building 2 more cages, increasing the number of cages to 12. Each type of fish has a different size and raising time, so Ms. Hiep releases fish of different ages and densities to have fish for sale every month. In particular, she raises cobia with a density of about 120 fish/cage, grouper 500 fish/cage, pompano 2,000 fish/cage... The types of fish for sale weigh from 300 grams to 4 kg/fish depending on the type. With a selling price of 100,000 to 120,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, she earns more than 200 million VND per year. In addition, she and her husband also rented 7,000 square meters of land, plus 500 square meters of rice fields given by her parents to grow rice. With 2 rice crops/year, after deducting expenses, each year she earns more than 50 million VND, providing additional income for the family.
Ms. Phan Thi Thanh Duoc - Vice President of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, President of the Tu Bong Commune Women's Union said that recently, the union has coordinated with agencies and units to organize training courses on cultivation and animal husbandry for members and women. At the same time, it has provided means of livelihood to members in difficult circumstances; supported loans from entrusted sources to help women develop their family economy, including Ms. Nguyen Thi Hiep. Ms. Hiep is a typical member in the movement of women starting a business and developing the local economy. She regularly shares her experiences in rice production and fish farming for women to learn and follow; and provided financial support to help women, the elderly, and children who are sick, ill, etc.
