On September 13th, the Quang Binh Provincial Farmers' Association announced that farmers in Duy Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district, have developed a model for raising specialty fish at the confluence of the Kien Giang, Long Dai, and Nhat Le rivers, achieving high yields. However, finding a market for the product remains a difficult challenge requiring effective marketing solutions.

Local specialty fish such as sea bass and grouper are being raised using a new aquaculture method in this river confluence area.
Paddling his boat to the fish cages, Mr. Pham Minh Dau (from Phu Ninh village, Duy Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district) said: “I was the first person to raise fish in cages here. I went to other provinces to learn about cage fish farming. Initially, I only released a few hundred fish to try it out, but unexpectedly, the fish grew quickly and yielded profits soon.”

According to Mr. Pham Minh Dau, the area where he raises fish in cages is a river junction, where the Kien Giang, Long Dai, and Nhat Le rivers meet, so it has brackish water, suitable for raising species such as sea bass, snapper, and eel.
After the initial success, Mr. Dau borrowed an additional 50 million VND from the district's policy bank, expanded his operation to 9 fish cages, and stocked them with 3,000 fingerlings.

After 6 months, the fish reached the desired weight and were sold at 100-120 thousand VND/kg for sea bass and 300-320 thousand VND/kg for snapper. A profit of 100 million VND was earned after deducting expenses.
From then on, Mr. Dau showed the local people how to raise fish. To date, 22 households have raised more than 60 fish cages at this river junction.

Mr. Pham Van Thong (Phu Ninh village, Duy Ninh commune, Quang Ninh district) said that, guided by Mr. Dau, his family borrowed capital to invest in 10 fish cages, earning a profit of over 100 million VND per year.
However, currently, despite good growth in fish production, sales are facing difficulties due to unstable consumption. According to Mr. Pham Minh Dau, local people are currently struggling to sell their fish and hope that the local government will soon develop a brand for "Duy Ninh caged fish" to improve product quality and reach customers more easily.

Responding to this legitimate aspiration, Mr. Pham Minh Canh, Chairman of the Duy Ninh Commune People's Committee, said that the local government is currently paying great attention to developing cage fish farming. In the coming time, the commune will have specific discussions with the people to build a brand for Duy Ninh cage fish, and further aim to achieve OCOP certification for this product to enhance its reputation, get closer to customers, and create a breakthrough in production, processing, and consumption.
