On December 9, at the 8th Session of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Council, the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee submitted a Draft Resolution on unifying the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee as the competent authority to implement the investment project to build the Ben Thanh-Suoi Tien Metro line extension to the Provincial Administrative Center and Long Thanh International Airport (Long Thanh Airport), under the public-private partnership method passing through two provincial-level administrative units (Dong Nai Province and Ho Chi Minh City).

Accordingly, the basic route follows the planning, starting from station S0 in Tan Van, the route follows the planning direction, crosses the Dong Nai River and goes along National Highway 1, connecting to the SC station of the new Administrative Center.

The route then follows the planned corridor of the Bien Hoa-Long Thanh railway line, along DT.771, crosses the Ho Chi Minh City-Long Thanh expressway, connects to SA station and then follows the planned corridor for railway lines to Long Thanh airport.

The total length of the route is about 41.4km, including 3 main sections. Section 1 from station S0 to the administrative center station (SC), is about 6.1km long. Section 2 from the administrative center station (SC) to station SA (to the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh railway line) is about 28.2km long. Section 3 (the section to the airport) is about 7.1km long (new route and runs parallel to the Thu Thiem-Long Thanh metro line, the North-South high-speed railway).

Preliminary total investment is about 60,261 billion VND, of which compensation and resettlement support costs are about 4,323 billion VND, implementation period is 2025-2029.

Long Thanh Airport will be put into commercial operation in the first half of 2026.

Regarding the need to invest in a metro line from Suoi Tien station to Long Thanh airport, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province said that the current traffic system connecting Dong Nai province and Ho Chi Minh City mainly relies on three modes of transport: road, rail, and waterway, of which road transport is the main mode of transport.

However, with the increasing traffic density, the existing roads are overloaded, causing continuous congestion such as National Highway 1, National Highway 51... Although the connecting routes between the two localities have been directed and implemented recently, they still do not meet expectations and traffic connection needs, especially when Long Thanh airport is officially put into operation.

At the same time, the need for connection between Tan Son Nhat airport and Long Thanh airport is urgent to ensure parallel operation between the two airports; Long Thanh airport will receive a portion of passengers and cargo from Tan Son Nhat when it comes into operation.

Therefore, it is extremely necessary to soon research and implement other connecting traffic projects such as metro, high-speed railway, connecting bridges on inter-regional roads... to meet the traffic connection needs, reduce travel time, especially contributing to shortening the connection distance and travel time from Tan Son Nhat airport to Long Thanh airport.

During the meeting, delegates of the Dong Nai Provincial People's Council will consider and vote to approve the above draft Resolution.
