The Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has just approved the landscape renovation project in front of Ben Thanh Market - also known as the Ben Thanh Market Square project.
The project has a total investment of 144 billion VND from the city budget. Including construction of squares, green parks, Tran Nguyen Han monument, Quach Thi Trang monument; improvement of technical infrastructure (lighting, drainage...).

The renovation area covers an area of 13,096.1 m², which used to be the Quach Thi Trang roundabout. In 2017, the roundabout was demolished to construct the Ben Thanh metro station. After the construction unit returned the site, the roundabout was replaced by an intersection with traffic lights.
In the square area, the city will plant trees to create shade without obstructing the view of Ben Thanh market. Tamarind is chosen as the main tree to create recognition, combined with Barringtonia acutangula as a highlight.
The square will also have large flower beds to create a photo backdrop towards Ben Thanh market; there will be large grass patches to create living space for people, helping to absorb heat and increase drainage capacity.

According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction, the project will be implemented in 2025 and 2026. The investor is the District 1 Construction Investment Project Management Board.
With this project, Ho Chi Minh City aims to renovate the overall landscape of the area in front of Ben Thanh market into a new square space, meeting public activities in the central area, helping to connect types of transportation and socio -economic activities in the area.
The project will also help preserve the historical, cultural and architectural values of Ben Thanh market, contributing to improving the appearance of the urban center and increasing the quality of life of the people.
