On December 4, Children's Hospital 1 (HCMC) held a ceremony to honor the cooperation achievements between the hospital and the International Volunteer in Urology Organization (IVUmed, USA - a humanitarian medical organization working to bring high-quality urological care services to patients).
In 1990, the Interplast Group of the United States (the predecessor of today's IVUmed) came to Vietnam and chose Children's Hospital 1 to support and train surgical treatment for children with congenital malformations.
Over the past 35 years, the Pediatric Urology Center - Children's Hospital 1 has continuously received support and training from the world's leading pediatric urology experts. Thanks to that, the team of doctors has approached and mastered many surgical techniques from basic to complex, especially in the field of pediatric genitourinary plastic surgery, at a time when almost no center in the country could perform it.

Dr. Le Thanh Hung - Head of Department of Nephrology and Urology, Children's Hospital 1 shared at the ceremony.
In recent years, the hospital has effectively treated most of the genitourinary system malformations such as hydronephrosis, double ureter, genital malformations, etc. Specialized techniques such as treating external bladder and hypospadias have reached the leading level in the country and approaching the world level.
According to Dr. Le Thanh Hung - Head of the Department of Nephrology - Urology, Children's Hospital 1, in 2019, the Department of Nephrology - Urology was established. To date, more than 50,000 pediatric patients have been examined and treated, and 8,000 surgeries have been performed.
The center also implements many modern techniques such as microsurgery for genitourinary reconstruction, treatment of pediatric urinary stones by minimally invasive methods and initial pediatric kidney transplantation. The complication rate is maintained at a very low level, confirming the safety and effectiveness of treatment.

To date, more than 50,000 pediatric patients have been examined and treated, and 8,000 surgeries have been performed at Children's Hospital 1.
In addition to expertise, the center focuses on training, scientific research and innovation; is a prestigious practice facility for many domestic medical schools and regularly transfers technology to other hospitals. The center maintains a sustainable cooperative relationship with IVUmed and international experts to continuously update new techniques.
With the achieved results, the Pediatric Urology Center of Children's Hospital 1 (HCMC) has been recognized by the International Volunteer in Urology Organization as the first excellent Pediatric Urology Center in Vietnam.
The Head of the Department of Nephrology and Urology, Children's Hospital 1, said that the title of Excellent Pediatric Urology Center is a driving force for the center to aim to become the leading Pediatric Urology Center in Southeast Asia in the near future.
