The Significance of the August Revolution in the New Era

The international scientific conference 'From the August Revolution to the new era of development: The country's foundation, potential, position and international prestige' once again showed the great significance of the August Revolution to the Vietnamese people.

The conference took place in Hanoi on August 15, organized by the two universities of Social Sciences and Humanities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day, September 2.

The conference gathered nearly 200 scientists and scholars at home and abroad, with 150 elaborate reports, deployed through three sub-committees: August Revolution 1945 in Vietnamese history and international position; 80 years of national construction and development (1945-2025); Vietnam in the new era of development.

Access to diverse historical sources

Scientists and scholars at home and abroad together looked back on the 80-year history of both hardship and glory of the nation, analyzed core values, summarized valuable lessons and contributed their voices to shape the vision and development orientation in the new period.

Many opinions focused on appreciating the great significance of the August Revolution. Subcommittee 1 with 43 papers discussing the topic "The August Revolution of 1945 in Vietnamese history and international position" focused on recreating and deeply analyzing the context, developments and multi-dimensional significance of the August Revolution.

They not only affirmed the position of the event in national history but also clarified its international character, placing the August Revolution in the " world revolutionary storm" at that time.

Core issues such as the diplomatic struggle of the Viet Minh Front, the art of seizing opportunities; lessons for the renovation process and the international character of the 1946 Constitution were discussed.

In particular, the subcommittee introduces new discoveries through approaches from diverse historical sources such as memoirs and narratives or Japanese archival documents, providing new and profound perspectives.

The workshop also discussed ways to promote the cultural heritage system associated with the August Revolution to become a resource for developing the cultural industry, showing a coherent connection between the past and the future.

A very proud journey of challenges

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khanh, former principal of the Hanoi University of Social Sciences and Humanities, affirmed that the August Revolution not only changed the destiny of the nation but also strongly inspired the national liberation movements in Asia, Africa and Latin America, contributing to the process of peace and social progress in the 20th century.

After 80 years, Vietnam has achieved many comprehensive achievements, deeply integrated, and its international position and prestige have been increasingly affirmed, further proving the great significance of the August Revolution.

Subcommittee 2 provides a panoramic view of the nation's 80-year journey, full of challenges but also full of pride. From perfecting the young government apparatus to inheriting the legacy of the August Revolution to build a great national unity bloc.

Scholars also analyzed foreign policies, typically the process of reconciliation and building partnerships with the US, France, and Japan, as well as policies toward overseas Vietnamese to promote national strength...

Panel 3 discussed Vietnam's position, foundation and international prestige in the context of globalization and deep integration. The presentations focused on clarifying Vietnam's mark in the 80-year journey of national founding and analyzing Vietnam's unique development path compared to the East Asian region.

Scholars discussed how Vietnam can assert its mettle, responsibly integrate into the international community, and inherit the legacy of the August Revolution to build international prestige in the new era.

Regarding the significance of the August Revolution, Professor Ngo Thi Phuong Lan - Principal of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Ho Chi Minh City National University - affirmed that for the Vietnamese people, August autumn has great significance.

It is the season of important historical milestones, of pride and indomitable will to overcome all challenges, the beginning of a lasting independence of the nation.

The August Revolution gave birth to the Democratic Republic of Vietnam, opening a new era: the era of independence, freedom and progress towards socialism.

Even though right after the glory of independence, our country had to face an unprecedented dangerous situation, the Vietnamese people firmly overcame the waves thanks to the Party's steadfast steering and the strength of national solidarity.

We have maintained independence, protected the achievements of the revolution and laid the foundation for national construction.

After 80 years of ups and downs, Vietnam has strongly risen to become a country with development potential, deep integration, and increasingly affirmed international position and reputation.
