According to the Vietnam News Agency correspondent in South America, speaking at the ceremony attended by Paraguayan Minister of Language Javier Viveros, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet emphasized that since the two countries officially established diplomatic relations on May 30, 1995, the friendship and cooperation between them have continuously developed. Despite the geographical distance, Vietnam and Paraguay share many similarities: both countries have strengths in agriculture, possess dynamic economies, and have resilient people.
Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet expressed her honor at the large attendance of representatives from Paraguay at the celebration, ranging from government officials to businesses operating in agriculture, telecommunications, and academia, reflecting the rich potential for cooperation between the two countries. The Ambassador highly appreciated Paraguay's achievements in agricultural modernization, particularly in livestock farming and sustainable energy development, with 97% of its electricity coming from renewable sources. Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet also stated that Vietnam, one of Asia's fastest-growing economies , could become a strategic partner supporting Paraguay in expanding its presence in the regional market.
Regarding future cooperation between the two countries, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet believes that there is still much room for expanding cooperation in trade and investment, as Vietnam's strengths in electronics manufacturing can complement Paraguay's advantages in agriculture and clean energy. According to the Ambassador, the two countries can continue to utilize mechanisms such as the Southern Common Market (Mercosur), of which Paraguay is a member, as well as other multilateral organizations to strengthen cooperation.
On this occasion, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet particularly appreciated the role of the Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Paraguay, Ms. María Del Carmen Pérez, in promoting connections between the two countries and contributing to the organization of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations.
During her working visit to Asuncion, Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet also met with the Director General of Multilateral Policy at the Paraguayan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ms. Nimia Da Silva Boschert, to discuss measures to further promote political, economic, and trade cooperation, particularly in multilateral and regional forums such as the United Nations and Mercosur.
During a meeting with Ambassador Ngo Minh Nguyet, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Paraguay (PCP) Najeeb Amado announced plans to hold a Party Congress in May 2026 and expressed his desire to share experiences in Party building and the organization of political theory courses with the Communist Party of Vietnam. General Secretary Najeeb Amado highly appreciated Vietnam's struggle for independence and the socio-economic achievements Vietnam has attained during its Doi Moi (Renovation) period.
In an interview with a Vietnam News Agency (VNA) reporter regarding Vietnam-Paraguay relations, Minister of Language Viveros praised the achievements of the two countries, particularly in political dialogue and practical cooperation that benefits both nations. Furthermore, bilateral trade has maintained stable growth, while cultural and academic cooperation, though modest, has helped promote mutual understanding.
Assessing future prospects, Minister Viveros noted that opportunities for cooperation between the two countries are very broad, especially in the fields of trade and culture. According to him, Vietnam's experience in tourism development can effectively support Paraguay. Vietnam is currently one of the largest importers of iron and steel, a strong area for Paraguay's metallurgical industry. For its part, Paraguay exports beef, cotton, soybeans, and corn to Vietnam; while importing footwear, tires, and electronic products from Vietnam.
Minister Viveros stated that the two countries have much untapped potential in the food, agricultural technology, telecommunications, renewable energy, and processing industries. Both sides can promote academic exchanges, scholarships, and artistic activities, thereby enhancing mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.
