Phan Quang Trường shared this at the graduation ceremony of Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages - Information Technology (HUFLIT) on the morning of October 16th. Quang Trường graduated with distinction in English Language and was offered a position at the university.
Compassion and gratitude
In 2021, his father passed away due to COVID-19, and a few months earlier, his mother died from a serious illness. The loss of loved ones left Truong feeling lost. His teachers at the Foreign Language Department of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Foreign Languages and Information Technology took his hand and told him he had to keep moving forward.
Truong recounted that when his parents were alive, they told him that there would come a time when they could no longer be with him in this world. At that time, he should remember their teachings – the values they passed down to him so that he could live a good, happy life with compassion.
Truong said he was extremely grateful for his parents' sacrifices. That was also an intrinsic motivation that pushed him forward every day, and because "my parents taught me a great lesson about compassion."
"When I was eight years old, my mother took me to a local orphanage to distribute rice, notebooks, pencils, and some toys that my mother and I had stayed up late to make. This created a cycle of giving," Trường said, speaking about one of the values his mother taught him from a young age.
And so, four years of university flew by in the blink of an eye. It was a journey filled with laughter, tears, victories, and challenges.
"But after all, there's one great lesson that will always be etched in my heart: the gift of gratitude. I believe that gratitude means not letting the images of loved ones fade with time – images that have lived and continue to live in my memory. Even though they are not here today, in this world , or cannot come here, their influence on me continues to ignite a flame of inspiration within me," Trường shared.
The school also expressed its gratitude to the teachers in the foreign language department – whom the school calls its second mothers. Time may pass, but the power of genuine appreciation will endure forever.

HUFLIT's graduation ceremony on the morning of October 16th featured 11 new master's graduates and 1,550 new bachelor's graduates. Notably, this graduation ceremony included 6 bachelor's graduates who completed their training program early, finishing in just 3 years, with 1 student graduating with distinction and 5 students graduating with honors.
These are the first students to enroll in HUFLIT's 3.5-year training program. The students graduated one semester early.
Tran Thy Binh, who completed her training program in three years with honors, said that she was encouraged by her professors in the Information Technology department to plan to finish her studies early.
Binh shared that graduating early required a lot of pressure, especially time pressure. She had to work on her project and graduation thesis simultaneously, ensuring the quality of both while completing her remaining courses on time.
Meanwhile, Kim Ngan, who accelerated her studies and graduated with honors, said that she had set a goal from her first year to try to graduate early. Therefore, on average, Ngan took 2 to 3 extra courses each semester.
"Besides having to overcome a lot of pressure, I think that accelerating my studies will be a huge advantage as it saves study time, allows me to start working earlier, and gives me a competitive edge," Ngân shared.
