NIKKEI. Japan is aiming to invest more than $13 billion over the next five years to support countries in the global south, Economy, Trade and Industry Minister Yasutoshi Nishimura told reporters.
KOREA TIMES. Chief of Naval Operations Vice Admiral Kim Myung-Soo has been appointed as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), the South Korean Defense Ministry announced.
YONHAP. A South Korean patrol boat spotted a North Korean ship stranded near the inter-Korean maritime border in the East Sea and provided humanitarian assistance.

PTI. India has initiated the process of purchasing 26 Rafale-Marine fighter jets by formally making a request to the French government for the landmark deal.
MINT. India will provide additional funding worth LKR 23 million ($71,000) to help Sri Lanka train its armed forces, Acting High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka Satyanjal Pandey said.
OUTLOOK INDIA. Maldives President-elect Mohamed Muizzu has vowed to work to bring Indian soldiers home “as soon as possible”, stressing that this is a top priority in Malé’s foreign policy.
TIMES OF ISRAEL. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the country's war with Hamas militants would be "long and difficult", after the army expanded its ground campaign in the Gaza Strip.
ANADOLU. Hamas is close to reaching an agreement with Israel over the hostages it is holding, but Israel is “obstructing” the possibility, according to Hamas spokesman Abu Ubaida.
