On her personal page, Nguyen Thi Anh Vien posted the status "Swimming in the Red River is easy, Vien will show you," along with a picture of herself standing in the river, near the Long Bien Bridge.
Ánh Viên's post quickly garnered over 10,000 likes. Everyone was amused by Ánh Viên's wit.
In the post, Anh Vien thanked everyone for their well wishes. This famous athlete always shows a warm and friendly attitude towards her fans.
Ánh Viên captured the moment she was swimming in the Red River.
Ánh Viên recently participated in a swimming challenge in the Red River with the Discovery Swimming Club. Through a friend, the club's chairman, Nguyễn Ngọc Khánh, contacted Ánh Viên to invite her to participate in this activity.
Khánh revealed that Ánh Viên was quite curious and thought about it for a day before accepting the invitation. On March 11th, Viên arrived in Hanoi to swim around the base of the Long Biên Bridge for about an hour. Viên received thorough guidance from everyone on how to navigate and feel the current, as she was used to swimming in still water.
"Vien was shivering because it was cold that day. However, she gradually adapted to the environment and demonstrated exceptional swimming skills and speed in all four strokes: freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly," Khanh recalled.
Currently, Ánh Viên no longer competes for the national team. After many years of dedication, the girl from Can Tho won 25 SEA Games gold medals, 2 ASIAD bronze medals, 1 Youth Olympic gold medal, etc. She is also the Vietnamese athlete who received the most investment in history, with approximately 30 billion VND in funding between 2011 and 2019.
After the Tokyo 2020 Olympics in 2021, Anh Vien withdrew from the national team, wishing to focus on her studies and personal life. In 2022, Anh Vien still participated in the 9th National Sports Games in Hanoi. Her competition management unit was the National Defense Sports Center 4.
Besides competing, Anh Vien opened a swimming center for children in Ho Chi Minh City.
Returning to normal life, Anh Vien became more open on social media. She frequently posts photos and videos on her Facebook and TikTok accounts to share about her life and her swimming training skills.
Recently, Ánh Viên completed her studies at the Ho Chi Minh City University of Physical Education and Sports.
